So if you had to pick one, which best describes you? (And I understand most of us could fit more than one category - just curious as to which is uppermost in your mind).
A Collector: I collect micro-armor, Either in packs or units. May paint or not, but painting is basic and not a primary focus.
B Gamer: I use GHQ as pieces in my games. Painted. Maybe sprayed maybe highly detailed but the end result is always intended to be a game piece.
C Modeler: I paint or make dioramas in 1/285 instead of 1/35 or 1.72. Focus is on painting, assembly, mods etc.

I collect and paint 1:1 - one vehicle = one vehicle.
My collection is organized into TOE units. I'm interested in depicting the TOE development of US units. I have some NATO units gradually building up to battalion level, and Russian units for comparison. At the moment, I have H-series US battalions, transition J, and J-series units. The mech and tank units in each series depict the small changes - for instance, one Bradley mech unit has the M3 scout platoon and includes the AT company, and the other has the HUMVEE-equipped scout platoon and no AT company. I've just ordered a Stryker company and will eventually get to at least one battalion, maybe two. I'm also working on cavalry organizations - divisional versus regimental, etc. I have a Soviet MRD reinforced with an independent tank battalion or two. It's been so long since the Russians have been out of the box that I've forgotten. All obsolete stuff - T62, BTR 60, BMP1 andBMP2.
Eventually, I'd like to depict the US tank and mech battalions from early WWII to whatever is current.
I paint according to the era. An M60 tank in 1961 would be a dark olive green and sport prominent markings. An M60A1 of the early 70s is in the ugly USAREUR camo - sand, brown, green, and black. A late 70s M60A1(RISE) can wear either the USAREUR or MERDC camo. M60A3s might be MERDC or medium green. M1s will wear medium green, and M1A1s and after are in NATO three-color.

Are You a Gamer, Painter, or Collector
I confess that I have some of each going on as well. I do gaming with my miniatures but I like to paint to a generally high standard. GHQ makes it tough for me to want to just slap some paint on because the minis have so much nice detail on them. That is why I buy GHQ whenever possible. I really like the detail.
I like games that look really good as well as good playing. I try to have nice terrain and buildings to compliment my models. That is why I play miniatures games.
I do have a large collection of micro armor but I am not as concerned about getting units built with every vehicle in their TO&E. I do like to have some support vehicles but only what I might really use in a game and not as a unit display. I do like painting trucks though.

Started as a gamer than a collector
As a gamer I had about 5-800 models but then my friend and I started collecting that resulted in a arms race.
He got upset after sending defective turrets back to GHQ but was told after exam using a microscope its was determined all the turrets were damage from gaming.
I know he never gamed or played with them.
So he got pissed off and stop collecting after a year of so I brought his collection
All 200 lbs of ghq
How I know the weight he sold it at $1 a pound to me.
Long story short
I regret all of it since soon after I found its wasn't any fun without anyone else local.
Funny I have cases of stuff I haven't open in 20yrs
I wish he didn't have that falling out with GHQ.

If any of those old bags have GHQ M60s or M60A2s, which have been discontinued, I would be interested in purchasing some. I'm looking for at least 54 M60A2s and 44 M60s (that's the round turret, not the elongated one), but fewer or greater numbers are worth talking about. Let me know by PM if you are interested.

Became interested in naval history and building ships in the late 50's with plastic models.
Moved into metal ships in 1/1200 scale in the 60's and had simple battles with another war gamer/collector in New Orleans (Japan vs US in the Pacific)
Sold the 1/1200 scale and stated my 1/2400 collection in the 70's.
Move to Georgia in the 80's and now just collect and build including some ships not offered by manufacturers. I do simple painting as I find the building the most enjoyable part of the hobby.

I'm a modeller first, a collector second. I love to paint the minis. I always want more of them to paint up. I'm not a gamer as I don't have enough to game with (yet) and no one to game with here near me. Next year I should actually have enough figures to reach gameability, Then I'll have to start searching for a group.
