I use ** CENSORED ** Megamats.1" hexes. I draw the terrain on them and they work well for me.
You are suppose to use water based markers on them but I use permanent markers .
I have 4 mats with varied terrain. I like them because there is nothing to knock over it's flat. I do use GHQ's miniature houses but you can also draw and color the houses on the mat.

Yes I use them for 99% of my games. Obviously I like them.
Do you have a more specific question?

No nothing specific . I am trying to find an easy way of setting up a battle that is portable , looks good and is less time consuming than making my own scenery .

Mats are your friend. Then you make modular scenery to go on/under. They look good, roll up, are relatively cheap (my two green ones cover a 6x8 for $90 and look great after 10+ years) and very versatile. If they look too "putting green" you can:
(a) Lay them out on a floor and get up on a step ladder with spray paint. Use yellows and browns to break up the green.
(b) Scatter lichen and flocking on the table so the open spaces are less "lawn like."
