DECAL TUTORIAL – from WW2CENTRAL.COM
Step 1: Prepare your 1/2400 Carrier for painting.
Step 2: Paint your miniature in a neutral grey color. Ensure the paint is consistent and smooth. You can use a model spray can if you're looking for a basic paint job.
Step 3: Spray your model with a gloss varnish/lacquer before you apply the decal. This will protect your base coat paint and allow the decal to slide around more easily.
Step 4: Neatly trim out your decal using SHARP scissors or an X-acto knife. Cut as closely to the colored edges of the deck design as possible. If you leave white edges around the deck then they will show up when you apply the decal.
Step 5: Before applying water, test fit the trimmed decal by placing it on your Aircraft Carrier deck. This can be done before you paint if you like. It should fit perfectly, perform additional trimming if needed.
You can use decal fixing and softening solutions if you prefer but DO NOT overdo it. Too much solution can warp and discolor the decal. A few light coats are best, allow the decal to dry between coats.
Prepare to soak your decal in clean water.
Step 6: Soak your decal in clean water for a few seconds.
Step 7: With the backing paper still on, position your decal in its approximate position on your model.
Step 8: With the decal in position, gently slide the backing paper out, leaving the decal in place.
Step 9: Using a soft brush, gently slide the air bubbles and water out from under the decal in a squeegee motion. DO NOT overdo this step or use a stiff brush; wet decals are subject to tearing.
Step 10: Let the decal dry and apply a few thin coats of Micro Sol if you prefer. This will help the decal to settle but do no allow the solution to pool up on the model. Apply another thin coat of varnish to protect the decal.
Detail your model to your preferences.
Be sure to apply a protective coat of Matte Varnish when you're done painting.
I hope this helps
