I guess the big question is - how much room do you have for a table? If you really only have 2x3 or 2x4 you can certainly play a game in that space. Could you play a 3 x 5 on the bed? Couldn't leave it set up overnight obviously?

I also live in a condo and have need for a small gaming space. I made a "Battlefield in A Box" and use it to play Fistful of TOWs and Flames of War (among other things).

For Flames of War I made a ruler marked in half-inches. Based my infantry appropriately (using GHQ) and play the rules as written. A 2 x 3 table is thus effectively 4 x 6. I tried centimeters but things just that little extra with the half inch feels "bigger."

If I want to leave the game "set up" the whole thing - with care - slides underneath my sofa. Just cover with newspaper to protect from dust. Otherwise it all "closes up" in a nice portable box!

While my dwelling is larger than yours I have the same space issue. After doing considerable research on the Internet I've found that most of the 3rd World battles can easily be fought on the 24" x 32" GHQ hex gaming boards. This means they can fit on the average kitchen table.

For example, in 2012 and 2013 there was yet another Tuareg uprising in Mali. This one included several Jihadist groups as well. ALL of the major battles in this can be played out on the table size described above. Most have anywhere from reinforced battalions to small brigades on each side.

Similar wars are ongoing in Yemen and Syria right now and have happened across Africa for decades. Do a web search for wars since 1945 and you'll get dozens of conflicts. The biggest fights were primarily in Korea, Vietnam, and the middle east but there's plenty of opportunity for smaller battles. Another good area to research for this is the Angola/South Africa fracas in the '70's and '80's. GHQ makes a large array of figures and models for all of these.

One other thought. If you're interested in WWII there are large numbers of smaller engagements that were fought. Head to any good library and look for parts of major battles or the smaller engagements.
