Help me pick a imagi nation camo

Post by nashorn88 »

I bought another air brush and thought I should start painting again.
I have mainly M1a1 and a mix of Russian t80.
I really like German WWII late war camo but the new Russian camo sure looks nice.
So what other camo do you guys like?

For moderns, I use the appropriate camo for the era and unit type. For late 70s US in Germany, for instance, I use MERDC. That would include M60A1 RISE AOS up through M60A3. For initial M60A3s and 105-gunned M1s, it can be either all medium green or MERDC. For German LEO II and later M1A1, M1A2, I use the NATO three-tone. If it's an early 70s US tank battalion, I use the USAREUR camo pattern. The MERDC pattern uses different colors for Germany and Fort Polk, so that provides some variety, although the pattern should be the same. For my M103A2, it will be olive green. For US olive green, the white stars drive me nuts, since I prefer to use paint rather than decals.

If I were doing Germans during WWII, I would look at the time frame and theater, maybe the season I wanted as well.

Modern Russians provide some real interesting varieties, but I tend to think of Russians as masses of dark green.

How much patience do you have for the research and then painting all those individual vehicles? Certainly that is a consideration. Airbrushing may make it go quicker, but at that scale, how accurate is your work.

Nash,

Though I have not used this scheme yet, I do like how it looks and will probably do some in the future.

I wrestled with this for a while too and then I just decided on plain OD green. The people of the Republic of Dalmatia are simple folk. Besides, when I was in the Army I always seemed to be in tan vehicles in the woods and in woodland camo vehicles in the desert. The exceptions for my imagi-nation are that Marines have camo on their vehicles. In the air, my aircraft are almost all gray except for recon aircraft - those are camo as well.
