Greetings, I thought I'd take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Joe and I like to build model ships. It's my passion. Recently I've been on a bit of a 1/2400 kick but primarily I'm interested in 1/700 WWI and WWII subjects.

USS Alaska CB-1 in 1/2400.

USS Alaska has always been a favorite of mine, so I decided to scratch build the lower hull and complete GHQs beautiful casting as a full hull model, screws included.

The rigging is a tungsten wire monofilament from a brand called Modelkasten. It's specifically for ship models. I use it exclusively for my 1/700 projects now. It's expensive but the results are second to none. Cheap at any price when you can achieve results like this:















I can get about 2 ships rigged per roll and each roll is around $30 or so I think.

Couple questions:

Phenomenal work on the Alaska underside especially those tiny screws. Surprised to see it's basically a flat bottom.

Have you tried moveable turrets in 1/2400?

Thanks. The hulls of the Alaskas were relatively flat.
The propellers are actually gain antennas from German FUmO radars. When laid across each other, they make perfect 1/2400 screws.

By movable do you mean positionable or motorized ?

Question where did you get the tungsten wire monofilament? what is the size also of the wire? I have wanted to do the same thing for years but couldn't think of anything for the size that would work or look good on 1/2400 scale ships.

Joe, absolutely outstanding.
I do not do "boats" but I must say you have some masterful works of art there.

The addition of the full hull (below waterline) on the 1/2400 I feel could be a line to take up by GHQ or an intrepid entrepreneur.
