I found this cheap airbrush on Amazon , think the same one is on eBay for less.

It can't really spray a hairline but close to it. I only been using the Tamiya brand paints. I have some that are 30 year old that is still good. I thin down with 50% alcohol. I spray using thin coats so I don't loose that GHQ detail I'm paying for.
i don't prime since I don't want to loose the detail of the model. For my German I do the base then the two camo all within an hour.

For the price you can beat it. It's ready to go out of the box that won't break the bank.

Compresser does get hot so use 10-15 min and let cool. Very quiet I usually watch tv while spraying.

If you want to spray as fine as a hairline then the Tamiya airbrush is great at $100. I dropped it so tip is bent until I fine a replacement. I think it's great since hairline is more to scale but very time consuming. If you only working on a few then ok but not really worth the time for the results.

This is an excellent post! After painting several hundred GHQ minis by hand, I have figured out that I am still putting on too much paint and covering up the really cool details. I know nothing about airbrushing, and have been reluctant to try it as I really didn't know what direction to go with it. It's good to know that there is a relatively cheap and easy way to explore painting like this. From what I've seen on the forum, I believe the airbrushed tanks look better than what I can do with a brush. Thanks again.

Specifically which paints are you using on your German pieces? Also, are you just dullcote on there and does it keep the paint job intact?

That cheap airbrush on Amazon looks like a really good place to start with airbrushing. I first realized that I needed to look into airbrushing when my daughter took a class in school, and I saw how easy it was. It's hard or impossible to lay on the same paint in a thin, smooth coat with a regular brush. I always use water based paints because I think that they are more forgiving, and easier to work with. The clean up is definitely easier with them. I started with a cheap Testors airbrush, but the one in the original post looks better, and even less expensive. Nice find!
