A long term query, 'flavour' vehicles? *Cuba, NK, Iran etc

Post by chatto »

Hello all, and in this case, hi team GHQ!

As GHQ would know *probably much to their annoyance when I ask them to go ripping through their bits box/ rip open packets to fulfil my bits orders!* I love to make conversions out of GHQ kits that allow me to build forces that would otherwise be hard to do...

Recently, my eye has shifted over the more unique elements of some militaries, particularly Iran, North Korea and Cuba as listed, but also Argentina and Brazil. All of these armies have EXTENSIVE home-built vehicle designs that are either seen in limited numbers (such as Brazil) within the current product line-up, or simply do not exist at all.

Now I know it may be a squeeze, but what would be the interest in the community for some models like these? Surely there would be interest in North Korean military equipment since South Korea and Japan are now getting some love?

Separate to this, I will also post on here my own "home made" customisations of GHQ kits to build equipment that doesn't currently exist, with a how-to for those interested.

So team GHQ, if you have any sneaky NORKs or other models coming down the line, let me know soon so I don't bother you for more spare parts! ;)

Cheers all!

I agree that getting some North Korean forces built up would be a good idea. That area could get hot real quickly! Is a lot of their stuff based on Russian/Chinese designs? Is that what you are basing your conversion on?

Double value really - it's easy to construct a scenario that has them fighting South Korean forces, or turning the other way and fighting the Chinese. You could plausibly have US, Japanese, South Korean and Chinese forces against the North - let's hope your chosen rules cover tactical nukes.

A lot of the older NK stuff can be done through a mix and match of Russian and NK gear, so the older Chon'ma - Ho tanks for example are pretty much T-62s just made locally, the Type 59 tank still used a lot is basically a carbon-copy T-54.

However, the more modern gear is where the modding comes into play. You need to use equipment from multiple sources (including the US gear!) to get the more recent equipment.

I have a number of conversions in the works:

M1992 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun
M1991 heavy rocket launcher
Chon'ma Ho V tank - the version with the squared turret that looks like a Type 96 turret
M1992 recon vehicle *four wheeler*
M1992 120mm self-propelled mortar/gun system
"152mm anti tank gun"
and a number of different 107mm rocket carriers.

It will take a bit, and there are a few other models I want to make, but they would require some serious sculpting on my behalf!
