Well, I just signed the papers on an acceptance letter for a job in South Florida. Will be living in the West Palm Beach Area. Looking for anyone that might be playing in this area and looking to expand there group. I already know about Paul and Chrisswim and would love to meet up with them and play once I get settled. Also, if anyone knows of a brick and mortar store in the same area that sells GHQ, send that info along as well.

Congratulations, Hoth! You are CERTAINLY in for a change of CLIMATE! I used to live in Merritt Island. (Most of Kennedy Space Center is on that island.) and I went to school at University of Florida. One of my favorite observations was the daily rain shower, which started around 1PM, gradually occurring later in the day and moving about 500 feet north every day during the summer. It lasted about half an hour, and was refreshingly pleasant. I guess it didn't really occur EVERY day, but it seemed like it. I don't know if it still happens. Be sure to travel through central and north Florida. Very interesting, and quaint little towns may still be found. During the Civil War, only Texas provided more beef to feed the Confederacy than Florida. Kissimmee, just south of Orlando, used to have a really big rodeo. At the south end of Orlando was an orange processing plant which smelled absolutely HEAVENLY in season, as did the orange groves that used to populate the center of the state. I don't know if any of that still happens. The orange groves north of Orlando were devastated in the 80s and I don't know if they ever re-established them. We used to buy a lot of fresh oranges along US 1 in Cocoa, too. Florida has a lot to offer just traveling around the state. Don't underestimate it - it's a long state that will take the better part of a day to go from one end to the other, particularly if you start at the western end of the panhandle. Get a travel guide if you are driving so you can stop at places along the way. There is more to see than Disney in Florida! Start with a visit to the Space Center!

I must have landed at Merritt Island about 500 times way back when.
That was when you could still do a touch n go at the space center and buzz Patrick if you asked nice!
I used to buy oranges at Cocoa too 8)

Thanks Panzergator, I appreciate the sentiment.

I use to live in Daytona beach between 1991 through 1997. However, being a stupid college kid and having no car or money, I did not get to explore much of Florida. Did a couple of trips to Merrit Island Park to see a few shuttle launches at night. Then a short hop over to the 24 hour Ron Jons at about 3:00am in the morning. Other than that, friday night hockey in orlando at 11:00 pm, Orlando clubs and church street station was the only other spots... :-(

I am older and have better things to spend my money on, like GHQ Stuff, than partying all night.. LOL. Plus my endurance for dealing with hangovers the next day has waned.

I would love any advice on quint little towns to visit would be welcome. Feel free to PM me so that we do not bog down the forum with non GHQ stuff.

You will have to come to the Olustee festival in Lake City FL.
They have the civil war reenactment every February.
Bring your micro force. They would love to see it.

Nepty,

Thanks for the suggestion on the Civil war Reenactment. Sounds fun, I may have to check it out. Chrisswim told me about the conventions in Orlando and I am going to try and go to one of those. Thanks for the advice and suggestion from everyone. Keep them coming.

Hoth,
Welcome to the Sunshine State. Home of the University of Florida fightin' Gators!!!
The convention in Jacksonville is in mid-February, called Rapier. Hurricon and Recon as I mentioned to you before.
As for Civil War reenacting, the Battle of Olustee is in Olustee, FL, west of Jacksonville by an hour, outside Lake City.(formerly known as Alligator in the civil war). I am a member of the 107th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Rgmt. We were stationed at Ft. Clinch in Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island, FL. Large garrision is the first Saturday in May. The have living history the first Saturday of each month. Out unit (107 OVI) is part of a larger battalion/brigade spread around Florida. Did Gettysburg 4 years ago, and various battles in FL.
Welcome again. Look forward to smacking you around some, destroying your micro armor. If not me, then Mick; if not him Paul will cause he is nefarious.
Let me know as you move down. Congratuations!!!
Chris

Chrisswim,

Thanks for the warm welcome and the congrats. I am excited for this moving. Went to school at Embry Riddle and my family is scattered around South Florida. So this is kind of a home coming of sorts. Thanks again for the Convention tips. I have never been to one, but am eager to go to my first.

The reenactment stuff sounds cool. a member of my current group in Washington state is in a civil war group but I never went out to see what its about.

As for the smacking around, I am originally from Jersey and as such I can not turn down an obvious challenger. I must answer in kind with only two words.. Bring It !!!!

My move will occur some time before August 21st but I have been informed that I have to head to Connecticut for two weeks of training. Then I will be back to west palm. so it may be the latter part of September before i can be ready for my smacking around. LOL.

Enjoy the return to Sunny Florida. Looks like I missed you by a year at Riddle. graduated in 90. Do check out Chris' suggestion on Reenacting. I got joined a Union regiment the 9th KY back in 2004. The 145th Gettysburg was an awesome event.
