Captured Equipment

Does anyone played captured equipment with their forces? Thinking beute panzers - Germans using T34s, Russians using panthers, etc? I have a set of the Russian modified panzers, but have recently started putting one mini aside from my Russian truck packs. I am then painting in German colors to represent a captured or appropriated vehicle (particularly GAZ trucks and the GAZ bus (awesome model btw)). Thinking about doing a few captured Russian tanks as well. Looking for any thoughts on how anyone might have modeled these items, particularly captured tanks, and whether playing them made game more interesting ?

I haven't started it yet, but I will be making a 21st Panzer list from Flames of War (V3, not that hedonistic V4 nonsense! ;) ) for my Normandy forces.

Captured vehicles will be a mainstay of my truck fleet, some will be painted in german military colours, others will be in their original colouration... much as they were in real life! :)

I will also be making some captured Sherman tanks, as well as some captured Russian artillery for use by my German forces in Normandy.

Modern wise I am building up a terrorist organisation for my groups to fight against, they'll be running all sorts of mishmash gear and there the colors could be pretty much anything!

As for rules; it depends, as part of a conventional fighting force they would be more or less just a tank... you could make it that they may run out of ammo or be mechanically unreliable if they are field captures... or if they're something like the 2nd SS T-34 division then you would have a more prepare supply chain.

The Beutepanzer is really a chance to show some good modelling if you want!

Perhaps that T-34 has just been caught and has a badly drawn cross covering the original red star? Maybe that KV-2 was sent back; repaired and then properly repainted before returning to the field?

Maybe that captured ZiS truck is simply being used until the engine gives out because the infantry have nothing else?

As for base - I am modelling mine by itself for gaming... but it could also be a nice objective piece - maybe the new KV-1 they caught is still being checked out by the Germans? Could be a chance to have some German artillery crew figures around it examining it, with a tow vehicle nearby?

So here is a captured Zis Bus:

Going to work on captured t34s next. Think I have some artistic license for painting them...
