USS Enterprise CV-6 in late 1942?

Post by taskforce58 »

Hi, I'd like to build the USS Enterprise CV-6 as she appears in the 2nd half of 1942, around the time of Battle of Eastern Solomons or the Santa Cruz islands. Which one of the following is the closest to how she looked?

USN74 - Enterprise in 1944
USN31 - Hornet CV-8
USN94 - Yorktown CV-6 1942

If possible I'd like the aircraft provided to match too (i.e. F4F, SBD and TBF) but this is not compulsory as I'm fine with modelling it with an empty deck.

Enterprise 42

Based on what I know, the Yorktown 1942 model would be your best bet. She and the Enterprise were sisters. The Hornet was more of a half sister with some slight alterations from the other 2 ships.

This would give more the correct appearance for 1942 that you are looking for rather than the 1944 Enterprise.

I hope this helps.

I agree; USN94 is the best fit for CV 6 in late 1942.
For aircraft, those included in USN94 are correct. If you want more aircraft, USN43, Carrier Planes #1 - WWII US are exactly what you want.

Edmund

Are you gaming WWII naval or a collector? If gaming what rules are you using and would you be looking for opponents (read newbie AKA target)? Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion. USN94 it is then.

Stephen: The ships are for gaming, but only as targets for air combat games (I use Sturmovik Commander, a free ruleset).
