Well to be honest Chris, the Black Maple Company was from a project that was doomed from the start. Its doubtful if the New NCAF Administration in June will revisit the Special Forces project, but only time will tell.

I am sorry, but I can't help myself.

Why do you feel it makes any sense to replace a platoon of scouts with a drone?

You have to ask yourself a couple of questions.
1. Self, what do I do if the target area is obscured by trees?
2. Self, What do I do if the target area is covered by smoke or bad weather?
3. Self, what if the target area has buildings or structure concealing stuff.
4. Self, what happens if my drone is shot down?
5. Self, what if it's being jammed.
6. What if you want to be stealthy and not risk alerting anyone...
7.self, what if ground team is being jammed?
Assuming it's man portable...
8. Self, what happens if my drone needs fuel and I can't get it too the troops....

This is just a few off the top of my head. I would love to go head to head, RPNW to new canada. Not saying I would win, but your life would be miserable through the whole experience....

Couple more...

9. Self, how does a drone identify traces of enemy movement on ground (foot prints, tire marks, garbage..etc ) that would help identify what an enemy is doing. Before you say, my rifle platoons,. They would not want to be so close to the enemy to be detected...

Since drones pack powerful sensor equipment, are easier to use, and are Unmanned, they can be far more reliable and efficient in the scouting role. Thus it would make more sense to replace the Scout Platoons with them. Plus redleg told me once to try to preserve the lives of my soldiers so I think this was a step in the right direction. If a drone does get shot down its easy to replace. The RQ-11 Is a man portable drone, being small and powered by an electric motor, it can be stealthy if it travels at a high enough altitude.

Its part of my Modernization efforts Hoth to make the NCAF more of a match aginest the Eurasian Empire.

I am certainly no expert on anything.. but It does appear to me that you repeatedly do everything you can to limit your capability.. Just because a Drone has powerful sensors... does not mean that you can do without scouts. Having a individual on the ground is a way more powerful tool. Why do you think all the better military forces of the world use drones to enhance, not get rid of people.

As for what Redleg said, he is right.. but I doubt he meant that you should take away force multiplier assets and replace them with other ones that do not replace what you got rid of one for one. Preserve your men is more about not running a full line of troops into an ambush situation or have them needlessly charge when its a no win situation.

Finally, just address your comment about it the size.. Sure its man portable.. but you can only carry so many. The more drones you carry, the less space and available weight carrying capability you have for food and ammunition. In addition, as for flying at high altitude to achieve stealth, there is only so much you can see from a above.. sometimes you need to get up close and personnel with an enemy..

I know I am wasting my breath.. and at the end of the day this is the land of make believe and you can do what you want and to your credit you do. Just one person's oppinion. Again, you have bested me once more.. (sarcasm, the oldest form of humor).

So now you're interested in powerful sensors on drones? You stripped all the sensors off of your Sperwer drone and turned it into a flying camera for your battleship. The Raven is a great little drone for platoon and company level operations. I used them in Iraq and they work well for snooping around a neighborhood. A smart man would issue those drones to the scouts, not replace the scouts.

Scouts can care drones. As you say Mech, to protect or to reduce risk of the scouts, use drones to look at/in areas where you have very little knowledge. Perhaps determine path entry or to find cover. Drones are expendable.
I concur with Hoth assertion, reasonable.
