D CO/1/11ACR Plugging the Gap

I design and play board wargames. These are a module for the game MBT by GMT games. The hexes are 100m. The game is played with some high quality counters with top views of tanks and some statistics for their game use.

I thought it would be fun to use MicroArmor instead, so here is an early work on them. This module is called "Plug the Gap" and D Company has moved to a position to block the enemy advance guard which has penetrated the B Troop Screen. Its a near run thing to poke the eyes out of the enemy commander, starting with the destruction of the Combat Reconnaissance Patrol.

D Company has just recently received new M60A1 Rise Passive Tanks (okay, these are A3s, but never mind that) and they are still clad in their Forest Green paint scheme as delivered. They are still moving into position. 2nd platoon on the left is moving forward, 1st and 3rd (in the north and south) are set. The CO is with 1st and the Forward Observer is moving with 2nd at the moment. The Heavy section, under the watchful eye of the Platoon Sergeant's section is bounding forward just as the CRP comes into view.

Looks good, Mike. If you look REALLY CLOSELY at those A3s, you will see they are actually A1(RISE/Passive)s with barrel jackets. They also have the new air cleaner boxes, but the sight covers are not the rounded covers that mark an A3, so you get a pass on that. The slant-front air cleaners could be seen on A2s as well, and the barrel jackets were availabe, so could be added...

Just bending reality a little...

Well, my eyes are not quite that good, even with 4 power magnification.

I just started painting, but when we got our A1 RPs, we didn't paint them for about 6-9 months, as I recall. We liked them green.

I saw a LOT of medium green afvs in Germany. I don't know when folks got around to painting them. When I tested the M1 driver's thermal viewer in late 1982 in Schweinfurt, the unit's M1s were medium green. I think 11ACR's were, as well. I thought medium green was just fine. It makes painting a lot easier, but the only medium green I found was a Humbrol color and I can't figure out what their new colors are. Nobody aroubd here carries them, so they have to be ordered on line.

I'm actually using Tamiya NATO Green, Brown, and Black with their Sand color. Not really accurate to the 1980's, but oh well. I have to drive to Orlando to get them if I want them in a hurry. Tamiya is acrylic.

Model Masters colors were pleasing but are hard to get since Testers got bought out and they are largely going to be discontinued.

Medium Green FS34102 - Flat
Military Brown FS30117 - Flat
Black FS37038 - Flat
Sand FS33531 - Flat

You might want to consider Vallejo Paints. They are acrylic, but they have a nice selection. I have not used them too much. You can get a color chart here:

Model Masters was always my second choice. Have some Tamiya and Vallejo to try.

That's a great looking scenario, Mike! The vehicles work on that map perfectly!

As for posting photos, have you tried one f the other picture-hosting sites? I use imgur and it's pretty easy to upload and share photos on this forum.

I was on a couple for a while, but it became really bothersome to have to upload from home to there, than link to it from another site, and there were frequently issues with others coming to look at pictures on the site or hosting them, so I pretty much quit except for BGG.
