Mark Luther does some AMAZING ww2 terrain table work, but I haven't seen him doing any north africa gaming.

There is a gentleman on TMP who has done some desert tables (and follows Mr. Luther's approach quite nicely).

Wondering if that person is here too? Goes by Mark 1 on TMP. I made a post there too but I thought he posted here also.
