Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll keep working on the technique while I paint the rest of the company. and then I'll need a FIST-V for sure...maybe an M113 and some trucks.

For the M60 tank guys - was a company HQ in the early 80s similar to a tank company HQ now? 2 tanks, 2 jeeps, a truck, M113?

H seies Armor company headquarters was two tanks, 3 jeeps, 2 deuce-and-a- halves, an M113, and an M88. A Gamma Goat coyld either be added to the maintenance section or it might replace a jeep. The maintenance section - jeep, Gamma Goat, deuce-and-a-half, M113 and M88, were consolidated in the bn maintenance platoon for the J series. Contrary to popular impression, the M113 was maintenance track, not a company TOC vehicle.

When I was in, armor guys only got an arty guy at bn. We learned to and were expected to manage our own arty. Even as an asst S3, I did most of the planning for fires as I wrote an order. It was NICE when Arty liason showed up, though.

When in D/1/11 ACR, we got an FO who was the TC of HQ 65 the Blade Tank. Later, when they got M113s, it became the XOs tank, but in the 11th you could usually find an XO in his jeep chasing maintenance or occasionally in the TOC. (The troops and tank co had an M577). (76-80)

When in the 1st ID, I first got a FIST in an M113, but tested them with M981 FISTVs. I liked them in the M113.

In the 1 ID(F) I had a good FIST, so good, that after the XO, he took command of the company because he would have better SA than the platoon leaders. I gave him extra training. It worked ok when needed. Then he left to be Firing Battery XO, and the next one was too new to let him play at command, so it went from Me, to XO, to Senior Platoon Leader. Twice in training it got down the the 1SG.

No FISTers???? During my lieutenant years I was a company FSO for A / 1-68 AR at Fort Carson. Company commander's name was Highberger - great dude. Always took care of his FISTers. His motor sergeant's name escapes me, but he was awesome. There was some belt in the FIST-V that he didn't carry, but we acquired some and gave them to him and he always kept our FIST-V running, which is no small feat.

When I look at them individually I'm pretty pleased with these M60A1s, but for some reason when I put a full company together it looks weird to me. I may have just gotten sloppy with them. At some point my focus shifted from painting each tank well to getting the whole damn company done! I suppose I will need to do a full battalion now, but that will have to wait. My next M60 project is a company of M60A3s in the desert MERDC camo.

At least you have your sand and black minimized. I have not mastered that yet.
The contrasting my M2 Bradley that I just finished with M1 Abrams that I did over the summer.
I have too much of the sand and black. The base doesn’t match up, these had been painted 2 decades ago.









I need to think, make some adjustments.
I am planning two companies of Abrams, one of Bradleys, or some close to that.

Thanks you guys! Chris your vehicles look great. I was having trouble getting my black and sand smaller for a while and I finally started to apply those colors with a tooth pick. I guess I could go find a smaller brush, but I'm too impatient and I want to finish painting NOW!!!
