I read Fred Frank's book, released after the gulf war, in which he talked about the same thing. Not sure if general's name is correct. I will check when I get back to Washington next week.

Thanks for the cool pics, and for the insight, PG! I guess I will play around with some mine plows on my M60s!

Hoth, don't forget to post some pics of your M60s wen you get back to Washington!

Hoth, you are correct sir.
Into the Storm, by Tom Clancy and General Fred Franks.

Yea, that is the book I am talking about. I think I might want to read it again. It was really good, in my humble opinion. Cool that you met him in person.

I called him, spoke to him on the phone.
A colonel the went to West Point and had two tours there teaching, thought a couple of things that should have been different….
while in Vietnam, observing in a helicopter as a major, as I recall, don’t land the helo to start taking the wood/plans off the hooch that the Vietnamese soldiers are in as the NCOs then turn attention on you vs. solving the problem. Second item, was the large gap between Corps, it was his responsibility to know where the left flank of the adjoining unit is.

Question for the M60 tankers out there: did you ever have infantry ride on your tanks? Certainly mech infantry would have their own ride, but working with light infantry did they ever strap themselves onto the tanks? I was looking through FM7-8 Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad (dated 2001) and it states "Soldier ride on the outside of armored vehicles routinely. So long as tanks and infantry are moving in the same direction and contact is not likely, soldiers should always ride on tanks" (p. 2-127). I've never seen troops riding on tanks, just wondering if it ever happened back in the M60 days.

That's one of the things the rail on either side of the turret is for. Served in three different divisions, one armored, two mech, Germany and Stateside, never saw it done. Infantry was all mech in all three. Plus safety restrictions. Actual combat, you do what the mission requires. In M60A1(RISE/AOS), M60A2, and M60A3, you don't want the stabilization running with infantry on the tank.

Planning on 3D printing some M60s both the regular and the A2 version I found on Thingiverse, hope it turns out well. Panzer do you have any experience with the A2 version?

Those are great looking tanks Martin! You need to post pics more often! What colors are you using for your MERDC camouflage? They look perfect!

Fantastic work Martin!

I love your MERDC, and my only criticism is that the tan USMC M60 looks a bit flat. A couple of crisp edge highlights (like on your MERDC version) would go a long way to sorting that out
