Sad to see that the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD is still on fire after 15 hours in San Diego.
That is going to leave a mark or two. I hope it can be put out.

Not a hope I'm afraid - it's reached the bridge and all the electronics are shot. She'll never be economic to repair now.

This is terrible.
I was hoping they would get it under control.

Any info on what caused the explosion that triggered the fire?

Its crazy to think that something like this could spread so fast, when combat damage could be so much worse and they can sometimes bring it under control. While I do understand that there is not a full compliment on board, but to have this level of devastation seems insane. In my humble uneducated opinion.

She is down at the back (dock flooded?) and listing to starboard,
Hate to agree with you CG2 but I think she is a goner!

The reduced crew will be a factor and this may be even more of an issue if the care and maintenance team was light on damage control ** CENSORED **. There was some commentary that the automated fire-fighting equipment wasn't functioning but that may just have been speculation. I'm not sure that we can draw conclusions about damage control in action from this.

Still undergoing assessment but they are questioning a sailor under suspicion of setting the fire deliberately.

More likely she would end up scrapped or scuttled. as that fire did Alot of damage to the ship.

I just recently found an update on the ship, it looks like they might scrap her without a replacement.

So now a possible arson charge may be coming. No reason noted in the article why the sailor may have committed it.

Amazing how much damage an angry sailor can do- maybe more than an anti ship missile??!
