I lost my motivation once I realized that my local war gaming group was never going to play any modern war games. They are a fairly finicky group of guys that are deeply set in there ways. Even thought I kept buying stuff, I rarely got past the base coat stage. Because of the airbrush, that part is fairly simple. A contributing factor was that I had a long commute and worked out in the gym.. When I got home, I had a reduced energy level and little time to do other things.. Then two things happen, Started working from home because of the pandemic and Started chatting with Redleg. Working from home gave me more time to spread my time out and do more than just one thing.. Redleg's imagination stuff and his forum war games have spurred me to start painting again. So I guess, one of the big things that got me motivated is to have a friend that has similar interest. In addition, I started watching some Youtube video's from a guy that goes by Table top Minions. He does alot of 40K and its the medium he uses for his videos. However he does talk about the psychology of hobby stuff in general. It also crosses over nicely to our hobby. Here are some links.

Great post Hoth!! Right in the money. I was recently watching a series of videos on contrast paints as initiated by a posting in this forum. Though using warhammer miniatures, it was directly relevant and made me go out and buy $30 of contrast paints. I’m in the middle of painting a pack of Pzkw iiiJ and some Achilles.

Next set of videos - pin washing techniques...

Thanks Burtwulf, tabletop minions does a lot of stuff on painting methods as well. He has a really good one on how to make your own wet pallet. Since I am just starting to use acrylics, thanks kylon for killing modelmaster enamels, I am going to have to revisit that one. The cool thing is, painting miniatures is painting miniatures. So you can use methods across model types.

My boys play several games "on line.". They have an overhead camera setup overlooking their tabletop board. This could be done for GHQ wargaming by just using your own view. It's done in real time with several friends in other locations. They primarily use Zoom, with the overhead shot visible to all. They also use Skype and something called Discord. I don't use any of it, but that's a start point for any on the forum who might be interested.

Had an interesting weekend, as through a twist of fate, I got a box full of GHQ and CinC minis from a lady in my home town. It was full of WW2 stuff from various nations including Germany, US, UK, and Russia.

Cool haul MechCommander.

I've finished a few sci fi minis this holiday. I've still got 30 more Star Wars Imperial Assault figures and 50 Batman figures to go before my box is done and I can look at new minis. It was hard to pass on Black Friday but I have to finish that box. Once done, I plan to do decal work and learn more mini photography while waiting for the next sale.

I figured out how to paint those 1/2400 ships finally.
Been averaging 3 ship a day.
Just running out of balsa wood and there’s no hobby shops anymore 😖

Indeed it was a good haul Guroburov, as Its very rare to find historical minis in a place like Grande Prairie (AB), since the local mini wargaming community has largely been neglected by the current owner of Wonderland who seems more interested in expanding Comic Books and Poutine, then expanding the hobby. and that honestly sucks for all of us.

Well Cama you do have the Sentry Box who does carry GHQ products in their historical section, thats honestly the kind of hobby store I wish Grande Prairie had, and something we may need very soon.

The lady who I got those models said there could be more in storage somewhere, the models belong to her late husband who was into making dioramas.

"Motivation. Ugh."

I just go off line for a few days.
When I get back, Chris has again painted enough armour to become an even greater threat to World peace.
That always sparks the motivation.
