Well, I won't be buying any artillery for a bit. I'm afraid my heart was stolen away today by a vintage 1976 Sansui QRX7001 on ebay today. I fell hard and fast. It scooped up my heart and my money. The arty will have to wait.

Congratulations panzergator! I have no idea what you are referring to but you are certainly enthusiastic about it!

As for your not buying any artillery for a while GHQ should fear not because I came to the conclusion last Weekend that my next project will be the 3AD's Artillery brigade. With the lack of vehicles of all types I realized the 1:285th world was not ready for me to begin the 3AD's 3rd Brigade in an earlier TOE series. But I still needed another brigade project to go on to. So...

The GHQ order scheduled to arrive on Friday, or maybe Saturday (it depends on when I track it), will pretty much finish up 2-82 FA and 1-40 FA and I realized that once I complete F / 333 FA (TAB) (already planned) I will only have to build two additional DS battalions (2-3 FA & 4-82 FA with 2-82 FA as my template) and the divisional artillery HQ and 3-5 ADA. Unfortunately, with not enough Chaparral vehicles available my mixed battalion will only end up with the Vulcan batteries but at least the ADA will be represented. So rest easy there will be plenty of artillery. Just do not let Redleg know. I will never get it finished fast enough for him. :(

You can never have enough artillery!

You have motivated me, Brigade Commander, to finish up my ACR. The cav squadrons are complete, but I never did the support squadron. Your details on your support units has got me fired up to get the support vehicles in place as well. My wife was very exited wen I told her the news.

I'd love to see your artillery units. Can you post some pics?

I always seem to be missing some small piece. I guess I am going to have to call on the younger generation in my family, who are I am sure experts at this, to get me over whatever the last hurdle is. I know I have work to do on the picture taking as well. I will have to get panzergator to critique my attempts there as well. I wish the Forum was able to just drop them in here but I get the whole resources thing. Plus, needing more website support. I am sure it would not be an inexpensive undertaking.

My original thought was to do the 11 ACR so you beat me to that one. It seems other than Troops K & M of the 11th I have adopted the 3 AD. So I will let you lead the way and I will provide backup!

I suppose you young folks wouldn't know, but I'm talking about a 1976 Sansui QRX7001 quadrophonic receiver for a music system - back in the days of component music systems. It will run two sets of eight speakers for surround sound, two tape decks, which, of course, these days will support cd players, as well, and with the right cables, support your iPod, phone, or whatever else you play music on. A Rocketfish Bluetooth receiver plugged into the aux portals gives me compatibility with the laptop music, as well. And it handles my 1960s Dual turntable. I have had the European version since 1976, but when I saw this US model, it just called my name. Got it for half the asking price on ebay, so am very pleased. Even had wife's permission! But it cost me almost 5 24-piece arty bns (guns and FAASVs)... It will be a couple months before I recover. My weaknesses include vintage stereo gear and history books, as wel as GHQ minis.

In other news, someone needed Chapparals for their ADA bn. Since GHQ doesn't make them, I should be able to tell you that Legions for Hire does in their CinC line, but in the 80s and after, it might be better to spend your money on Avengers.

Well, I am long past the point of even me thinking I am young folk. Others find me positively old.But thank you for the thought.

Yes Legions IV Hire has Chaparrals. Unfortunately the last two packs are not enough for even one battery. And judging from their website they only bought the finished products. Not the molds. Because every time I peruse their C-in-C sales section more items are out of stock. I have yet to see one have stock return to it. As far as Avengers I have twenty already. Fills out a battery+ but technically they would not be in a mixed ADA battalion. The mixed battalions, of which 3-5 ADA was one, was Vulcan and Chaparral batteries. If they could come through for me with the M-969A1 fuel trailer maybe Masters of Military could come through with the Chaparral. After all, they have Patriot, THAAD, Hawk, Lacrosse, Pershing I & II, Gryphon and I am sure I missed one. Or two. How can they say no to Chaparral?! Oh, and panzergator, they have the Atomic cannon! BOOM!!

Yes, that atomic cannon has been on my target lisT for some time The Gator State MUST have a two-piece battery. It is almost at the top of the acquisition list.

I have seen some stuff come back into stock at L4H, but it seems to be moving very slowly. This may be him not fully ramped up or COVID economics. It is disappointing, in any case, because the line had pieces GHQ does not make, Chaps being an important one. I'm surprised GHQ doesn't make it.

The ADA bn was two 12-piece Vulcan batteries and two 12-piece Chapparal batteries. I believe each platoon had an M113 for the platoon leader. Each battery had a shop van, too. I can look up the H series. I have 4 Vulcan batteries, myself, but need the two Chaps batteries. The two extra Vulcan batteries provide very effective convoy escorts We must make do, being at the mercy of the manufacturers. Such is real life, as well. In Germany, as a tank battalion maintenance officer, I had to have hydraulic hoses made for my two AVLBs at the hydraulucs shop at Rhein Main AFB (the price was a bottle of Jack Daniels per and a good relationship with the master sergeant there) and GOER parts were purchased from the civilian Caterpiller (who made the GOER) dealership, because the parts weren't available in the Army supply chain. You make do.

I actually was tempted, still somewhat am, with buying the Shapeways Hawk vehicles and cutting off the hawk missiles and adding four arms and four sidewinder missiles from the GHQ aircraft weapons pack to each. But, as I have said before, their plastic is brittle, they are expensive and with kit-bashing casualties I decided I cannot afford to go that route. Yes, not even me! I did ask Masters of Military to consider the Chaparral because I believe it is the only one they do not currently make and they are the most responsive business I have ever dealt with. So a slim hope. Already have the Vulcans to build the two batteries support around. The Avengers are way too new for me. Either the Chaparrals were left in Europe when almost all of Europe went to Saudi Arabia or they went but were augmented but the Avengers were issued to 7th Army units as they arrived in Saudi Arabia. They did not have them before. And I have enough for two batteries. Jumped the gun (missiles?) on them. RATS...
