Non-Euro/MidEast terrain?

Post by Hellfish6 »

Is anyone out there making terrain that isn't western Europe or the Middle East? I'm finding it really difficult to find anyone to throw my money at.

Lazy Forger [link removed per Forum Rules] makes some great looking [link removed per Forum Rules] shanty towns and [link removed per Forum Rules], but without a 3D printer I'm left to the mercies of their one retail seller, who so far hasn't responded to my emails about availability.

I'm especially looking for anything that might look good in a modern or near-future Asian metropolis. No Vietnam huts, but those weird glass and concrete buildings you see if you do a Google Street View look at any populated place in China, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. would be awesome.

Any ideas? I've even looked for Z-scale items but none are suitably 'Asian' looking.

- per Forum Rules, please do not include links; naming other makers is allowed. Thanks! CAMA

As I recall, GHQ has some buildings suitable for Russian, Vietnam, etc.

There is a company called Game Craft Miniatures run by a dude named Allan Rockwell that makes some cool 6mm buildings. Some of them are, I think suitable to a near-future asian setting. Allan pops up on this forum from time to time...he's a world class modeler and he's got some great products.

Not futuristic, but paper terrain has an asian village and I think it has a temple or something like that. I just started using their stuff and so far so good.

Yeah, those are all still pretty restricted to a specific time and place, though. WWII East Front or Vietnamese rice paddies in the 70s. I'm looking for something more modern and (ideally) urban. I mean, there haven't even found buildings out there you can use for Hue or Saigon, nevermind Hong Kong or Singapore or Seoul today.

He carries the Lazy Forger line, but I haven't had a response to an email I sent him yet. The cardstock models, IIRC, are feudal Japanese. Again, I'm really more interested in modern or near-future urban buildings. Or at least buildings that wouldn't look more at home in 1945.

I second what Redleg said. I have contacted Allen Rockwell, from Game Craft Mintiatures, and asked him if he had ever thought about a motor pool building for modern vehicles. I was surprised when he designed something up and released it. You might ask him if he ever thought about it. Like Redleg said, he has some futuristic buildings. He is really approachable. I have corresponded with him on a few occasions. He use to actually post on this site from time to time. He collects GHQ stuff, or atleast he did.

I like Game Craft stuff as well.

Check out Time Cast. They do a variety of buildings which may or may not work for you. I also have a bunch of African buildings from Irishserb (name he goes by on various sites). He seems to have stopped (don't know if his molds are done or what) for now but you could contact him and see if he has any left if that interests you. Not shanty town but more like block constructed permanent buildings. Rather local specific though.

A couple of the sci fi outfits do buildings. Most are sci fi specific or "junker", which may work for you, but if you look I know there are some reasonable buildings which may be suitable or just need a little addition(s) to match. There is a guy doing laser cut card sci fi buildings, iliadagagamestudio dot com. He does or did do many large sci fi (or expandable, can't remember exactly now) which could pass as ultra modern. Plus he did a lot of scenery like ventilation fans, door, windows, roof top HVAC units etc. as separate "sprues" to detail or personalize structures.

Novus Design Studio ( the guy who used to run JR Miniatures) has a fair amount of modern structures in 6mm cast in resin. Leven out of the U.K. also has a lot of modern buildings also in 6mm resin.

They should work in any modern urban center.
Tactics are the opinion of the senior officer present.

Those actually look pretty good for what I'm after. Thanks for the tip!
