Securing turrets to hulls
Take disposeable foil pan, trim off sides, use hole punch to produce small disks. place turret stem in hull hole. Use TINY drop of glue to cement turrEt stem to disc. Trim disk as necessary to permit turret traverse for narrower hulls. Alternatively, bend up the disk edges as necessary, taking care to not seperate the disk from the turret stem.
You could use plain old aluminum foil, but the pans are stiffer and punch better. This should be quicker, simpler, and cheaper than magnets. You might also use a card stock. Make it easy.

Re: Securing turrets to hulls
I used to do it with map pins.
Drill a small hole in the turret underside. Cut pin to length. Put a small drop of a glue on the pin and push into the hole.
Then I gave up and now I just glue the turret in place.

Re: Securing turrets to hulls
I had the great idea for a Skirmish project to magnetise my turrets. I took a T-80U, drilled out the turret pin to insert a 2mm magnet, and then fit a 5mm magnet under the hull... I then realised that none or my 6mm rulesets care about turret facing, and it would be easier to glue the turrets

129 M-1A1's
90 M-2's / M-3's
24 M-109A6's
NOW you tell me how easy it is. Sigh...
Excellent idea. I wonder if de-bonding agent from the underside would be worth it? Gives me one more thing to think about. Well, no one said a hobby was supposed to have an end point. Ever...

Yes, but it has to be the acetone fingernail polish remover. I use it for unsticking my fingers when I'm trying to glue MGs onto vehicles.

Re: Securing turrets to hulls
For my Leopards and M109s, I drilled out the hole in the hull a bit and stuck a small piece of blue tack into the hull from below. The blue tack is sticky enough to keep itself and the turret in place, but I'm still able to turn it, while also giving the model a bit more weight. I'm just hoping that it won't dry up.

Re: Securing turrets to hulls
Great thread, I appreciate these ideas as I’m a ham-handed, glue small turrets to vehicles type of guy. Big ones I keep loose so the cat can knock them on the floor and lose them for me. Thread has me thinking…

Redleg, re unsticking fingers... Can you say "tweezers?"

A small piece of "Tacky Wax" applied to the bottom of the turret will hold it in place and allow positioning. This is also useful on turrets of capital ships.

If you want to go the aluminum disk route, just buy the lids for the half-size foil trays.
