Two interesting, as well as useful, books, both by Steven Zaloga: Armored Thunderbolt, about the M4 series Sherman, addressing the opposing views about the tank, and Armored Victory, regarding tank combat from the Battle of Bulge through the end of the war. LOT AND LOTS of PICTURES!!! If you like pics, these are clear and well-captioned, black and white, and plentiful.

I read the Death Trap book and did not care much for it. Thought it was over-dramatized to sell. I've seen Belton Cooper on TV and it was all e talked about. Zaloga addresses other aspects of the Sherman and balances much better. The other bookuses many, many pictures to illustrate the period addressed. Got 'em both from Amazon.

I have the Hunnicutt bookon the M4 and it is the definitive technical book. Zaloga puts the Sherman in perspective.

Read the introductions so you know where the author is headed.

I am also reading Stalin's War and The Ugly Rennaissance (** CENSORED **, Greed, Violence, and Depravity in an Age of Beauty), the latter because my interest in history goes beyond just military.

I just finished "Accessory to War" about the relationship between astrophysics and the military. One of the interesting things I learned was that the Hubble Space Telescope is basically a repurposed Keyhole spy satellite. They just flipped the camera around to point at space instead of the earth.

Now I'm re-reading the interesting bits in "Six Days in June."

I just finished his book on Arracourt. Certainly destroys the old "Panthers are worth 5 Shermans" canard. Picked up the one about the Bulge and the the one about '45 as well.

Certainly makes the point that crew quality >>>>> tank quality.
