M65 Atomic cannon...

In West Germany, 6 battalions, each of three batteries, two pieces per battery, later reduced to one per. These guns were in service from 1955 to 1963.

Honest to goodness, that sounds like something I'd have made up as a kid....

Definitely looks like something GI Joe had in the 60's. 8)

Renwal model in approximately 1/32 scale is still around. Shapeways has traveling and emplaced models. Latter on my wishlist in battery strength to help keep CofC at bay (along with more modern nuclear-capable arty).

That's awesome! How come I never got to shoot anything like that? I definitely need one of those. And by "one" I mean one battery. Wait...better make that a battalion.

It will be EXPENSIVE - about $15.50 apiece from Shapeways... Let me know if you get some. I will let you know what the other vehicles in the TOE are.

Back when I was 6 years old, I actually got a toy atomic cannon for Christmas. It was fairly large scale with the cannon and 2 prime movers. I cannot remember the manufacturer but I think it was by either Ideal or Remco. There were several projectiles you could actually shoot from the gun as well.

Here are a couple of pictures of the toy I used to have. It was made by Ideal.

That's awesome - I gotta get one/some in 1/285 scale! I'm pretty sure the atomic cannon is a gateway drug though. After that I will be searching for railway guns in 1/285 scale!

The M65 was based on a German railway gun... You can find them at Shapeways. Again, it will cost ya.

I have two models of the gun, both unbuilt. the Renwal 1:32 and Dragon 1:72. Why, I don't know...
