Anyone here from New Jersey?

Post by Extra Crispy »

There is an outside chance the wife and I might be relocating to northern NJ next year. Anyone here live/game in the area? If it happens we'd likely live somewhere near the Fort Lee/Clifffside Park area....

There is always benfrombrooklyn. Just two(?) bridges away. Or if that is A Bridge Too Far you could split the difference and game in Manhattan. :)

Aah the old country,. I grew up there and lived till I left for college in 1991. Not sure it's relevant to your question, but it made me miss jersey. If you move there, you will have to start referring to it as just Jersey.

Not sure where that is. I grew up in Forked River, just south of seaside heights. Seaside is where they filmed Jersey shore. When I was 16 I moved to Williamstown NJ. It's close to the start of the Atlantic city expressway.....

My dad, a combat photographer in WWII, became a Signal Corps officer after. We were stationed at Ft. Monmouth twice. Lived in Red Bank the first time and Shrewsbury the second.

I know the area well. Just over the GW Bridge and not hard to get to.
If you like Japanese and/or Korean food you are in luck. This is the best area on the east coat for that.

And if the Pointcon gaming convention ever returns to West Point (Seriously, West Point, for all the taxes we cough up to support you, you can do this!) you would be in convenient range of it.

It's official, we're headed to the East coast. Wife will be apartment hunting mid January, focusing on places between Guttenberg and Fort Lee. So I won't be posting for a while, as I need to pack up all my stuff!

Thanks.

I may end up with a game room again! There is a basement for rent in the area that, if it works out, would make for a base cam for storing my collections as well as hosting games. Just checking to get actual size, and make sure it has a bathroom!

We have secured new quarters in Edgewater, NJ on the Hudson, an easy 30 minute bus ride to The Compleat Strategist (now just a boardgame store really). Moving date is approx. March 8 depending on truck availability etc.

March 8? You have plenty of time to get another tank battalion painted up for your regiment!

How are you packing your micro armor up for the move? I'm always curious as to how people move a sizable collection without having to do a lot of repair work on the other end.

Moving microarmor... Did that for years. I put mine in single layer plastic boxes with lids, putting bubble wrap in each box to thoroughly fill the void and taping the single layer boxes closed. Then I put those in a small book box, fillIng the box. I filled any void in the box with bubble wrap again, the idea being to minimize movement of the individual vehicles in their boxes and the effects of impact if the boxes are dropped. I had about three of those boxes when I was moving. This served me well moving across the Atlantic and back several times, as well as across the country a number of times. The worst part was not having the stuff while it was in transit.

I grew up in New Jersey, and used to make an annual pilgrimage to the compleat strategist. Was there a couple years ago and it is definitely changed. But at least it still exists!
