Picked up Danger's Dragoons, by Haponski. Author commanded 1/4 Cav in VN in '69. My ROTC advisor commanded B Troop, which heightened my interest, as we are still friends (he attends our drill team reunions and has a great time). Freat story, but you have to get past tne author's ego. This is a divisional cavalry, so no tank company. Each platoon has 3 M48A3s, 4 M113 ACAVs, a platoon leader's track, an infantry squad mounted in an M113, and a 4.2in mortar track. The squadron forms task forces with divisional infantry, the divisions tank battalion, and 11th ACR. Keep track of who belongs to whom. There is also a D Troop - it is an aviation troop.
All blessings flow from a good mission statement.

I finished Guderian’s book and it was pretty interesting. I let my daughter pick out the next book for me to read!

I started "America's War in Syria: Fighting with Kurdish Anti-ISIS Forces". Interesting book.

Not really a "sit down and read" kinda book, but I just bought this one to help me figure out my next project. I want to build some Korean War units for wargaming and this is helping me identify what types of tanks I need to get for my American units.

I have a couple books by Bruce Gudmundson on the bookshelf right now. I just finished On Artillery, which covers technological and doctrinal development of artillery in the first half of the 20th century. I really liked it, so I ordered On Armor, and it bothers me that the covers are different themes! He also wrote a book called On Infantry, so if I like the Armor book I will check that one out as well.

Hey JW, how do you like Last Centurion? I started reading A Hymn Before Battle, but I was too distracted at the time and I just couldn't get into it. I generally like military sci-fi, so maybe I need to give it another try now that I'm a bit older!

I think it is his best work. Some of his other stuff I didn't get into. I read this one several times. It has Strykers , Abrams and Leo IIs. Political incorrect, has a liberal female president.

I just received Bruce Catton's "Army of the Potomac" trilogy (Mr. Lincoln's Army, Glory Road, and A Stillness at Appomattox) in one volume.

I dug this out as someone on Facebbok mentioned the film a while back. Took me some time to locate - most my books are still in cardboard boxes after moving house a few years ago.

Gazza, I must admit that I have neither read the book nor watched the movie. I think at a minimum I need to see if the movie is available to stream somewhere. I have a huge reading wish list, but I think I probably need to add this one!

Don, that must be a huge volume! How much does that book weigh?

re; The Army of the Potomac Trilogy.
It's not really that massive, only about 870 g. It's reduced size print - about 10 point I think. Fortunately, my close-in eyesight is pretty good.
It has a total of 1277 pages, including bibliography, notes, and index but not including introduction and maps.
Physical size is 4 cm x 13 cm x 21 cm.

I’m about 370 pages in, just starting Glory Road. I’m rereading it for the first time in about 35? years, and it’s just as amazing as I’d remembered. The pages in my original copies are really brittle, and I’ve been afraid of reading them.
