Merry Christmas

Post by Splod »

Merry Christmas!

:D :D :D :D :D

I hope you all had a splendid day.

For those of us who exchange presents, did anyone get anything GHQ under their tree? If not, what about other hobby related things?

My family don't get my 'little metal men' fixation, but they try! I got a massive set of 72 Vallejo paints to replace my very old GW collection I finally purged earlier this year. It's the Game Colour range, so I'm looking forward to having a wide array of colours for some interesting schemes

No GHQ, alas, but wOrking with Chris on a New Year's self gift. Focussing on 3D printing at the moment.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, everyone!

Merry Christmas Fellas! I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday!

No micro armor under my tree either, but my wife did surprise me with a 3D printer. Things are about to get interesting at the Redleg house!

She also got me a couple books that I had been eyeing. These will no doubt lead to more micro armor projects so I can get even further behind on my painting. PanzerGator: were you in Germany in 1976?

I was indeed in Germany in 1976. At Ray Barracks in Friedberg, in fact. From July of '75 to July of '78, I served in 1-32Armor, HHC, 3rd BDE, and 3-32 Armor. It was both miserable and fantastic beyond belief. How I miss it so! Golden times.

I, too, received books for Christmas, among them a copy of Crusade in Europe, Mapping America, Mapping America's National Parks, and the Complete Roman Army. My boys also gave me a Sansui reverb unit to add to my '76 Sansui QRX777, acquired during that tour in Friedberg. (Vintage component stereo systems being another hobby). The Crusade book was a replacementfor one lost through kindness.

Is your printer filament or resin?

My wife -on paper- got me the Prusa 3D printer (filament). I told her it could be my gift and then did the research/purchase.

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays y’all!

I got a filament as well - a Flashforge. I don't know much about it - or about 3D printing in general - but I'm going to learn!

Filament, I think, prints one at a time and takes longer. You should have a fan and vent hose to suck particulate matter outside that you shouldn't have floating around the have to breathe. You should be there while it is on and have a fire suppressant handy. When son gets home, I'll post more info.

Look at yeggi.com for .stl files. It brings together other sources, such as Thingiverse, in one spot. Search on "microarmor," micro armor," "micro-armor," "1 285," "tank," "apc," "ifv," or specific names, like M1, M2, BMP, Bradley, etc. You may need logins, watch for those that charge. Even if it's indicated as free on yeggi, you might be transferred to another site for it and find it is not or that you need to lo in to that site to download it.

My son has the knowledge of what to do and how to handle the files. Warning: He has a pretty good gaming computer, but when he stet the resin printer up to print 100 M113s, the program internal math almost crashed the computer. Start with small numbers.

This stuff is toxic. Until its cured, handle with nitrile gloves and mask. Avoid cutting, drilling, etc, if at all possible, even after curing.

I got a total noob question about 3D printing: how do you download the stl files? I see stuff on Thingiverse that I want to print, but I don't see an option to download the file. When I hit download it gives me the option to pay to have someone else print it for me, or to launch a 3D builder. I want to put the file on a usb drive and plug it into the printer, but I can't figure out how to get the file onto the usb drive.

The download button is on the Right hand side of the page Redleg when you look at the STL file image.
