Does anyone know if the M-113A3 with applique armor (N70) was actually used by the US Army? I cannot find any photos of being used by the US Army. I found plenty of pictures of M-113A3 with cage armor, but none with applique armor although I thought I saw some in the past.

The Commonwealth uses this hull, different weapon systems.

Kitbash, I put the HMG bucket on M113, put French turret w/25mm from VBCI or turret from V-150.

We had a lot of Bradleys with the extra armor, but I never saw any M113s with it. That doesn't necessarily mean that the Army didn't have some, I just never saw it in my little piece of the Army, and I haven't seen any pics of them either.

If I remember correctly, it saw limited use. GHQ would have been better off doing a M113A2 with the external fuel tanks on the back. As for that it still does need to do one.

There was a plan and a couple of test prototypes of this vehicle for the uparmoring using ceramic plates starting in the late 80s . The intent was for Mech units that didn’t upgrade to Bradley’s (ie National Guard ) would swap out their old M113s for M113A3 with the ceramic appliqué armor as shown . The plan was scrapped when the wall came down and suddenly there were lots of Bradley’s that were available to cascade down to the National Guard .

There were a few other countries that eventually used addon armour on their M113s in combination with the turret. The Danish used them in the Balkans in the 90's.
