Public demand?
Negative. New owner. The previous owner sold up shop because it wasn't lucrative enough to sustain him as a full time gig.

That is a very nice selection of recovery vehicles, Olfarty!

Yes, 2D6 is apparently under new ownership. It will be interesting to see what direction they go in. The previous owner and founder, Robert Fellows was a great guy and told me his reasons for leaving the business.

It’s great 2d6 will going. I really dig their infantry figures and their poses (although GHQ’s do have better proportions and details) and their quality control is on point.

Recovery Vehicles Part 3.

Left to Right

G510 Sd.Ah.116 with /SdKfz 9 FAMO prime mover – with part tilt from GHQ G136 (nb. of about 2,500 Sdkfz 9’s built, only about the first 38 built had
a one-piece tilt. For all wartime production the vehicles had separate tilts for the cab & cargo areas).
G133 SdKfz 9/1 FAMO F3 with crane
CinC G108 “Sdkfz 9 Recovery Vehicle” – as can be seen here this is a very nice piece – I rate this marginally better than GHQ’s G136
“SdKfz 9/1 FAMO F3 with spade”. The CinC model comes with the usual separate cab & cargo bay tilts, and, the frame/earth spade combination.
CinC G108 “Sdkfz 9 Recovery Vehicle” – with tilt over cab only.
G517 Büssing-NAG 4500 crane

G510 Sd.Ah.116 with /SdKfz 9 FAMO prime mover – with full tilt from GHQ G136.
G133 SdKfz 9/1 FAMO F3 with crane
CinC G104 Sdkfz 9 Tow Vehicle – with rear tilt only – another very nice piece from CinC (one of these vehicles could tow a Pzkpfw III)
G517 Büssing-NAG 4500 crane

Mis-cast & missing.

From my experience GHQ's quality control is pretty good. Although, I get it, it's a pain in the butt when you've spent your spare cash and packs arrive with models mis-cast or pieces missing. However, there can be solutions...

Examples. A couple of recent purchases had casting defects.

G587 Mercedes G3A – front left hand fender mis-cast. My solution: cut away the entire fender - depicting a vehicle with battle or collision damage - but still running.

G15 SdKfz 222 & 224 – front left hand wheel mis-cast. My solution: cut away the entire wheel and deliberately mangle the front end of the vehicle - depicting a recon vehicle that's hit a mine.

US68 "M2 155mm gun “Long Tom,” limbered with 7½-ton Mack NO prime mover". A while back I wanted to create a basic 4 gun battery of 155mm Long Toms. This meant purchasing three packs. The 4 deployed guns being in one pack of GHQ's beautiful US71 "M2 155mm gun Long Tom, deployed". The towed guns were in two packs of US68. However, one of the US68 packs were missing one of the pieces of the upper gun carriage. The solution was to hide the missing piece, so I eventually I ended up with a two guns with covers on the muzzle, upper carriage and breech, and, two guns with muzzle covers...

Specialized Armour

GHQ’s UK32 Churchill AVRE is another excellent piece. This vehicle was frequently employed carrying &/or towing engineering equipment. However, I long ago gave up on GHQ producing an accessories pack for the AVRE. So it had to be DIY. As I wanted to depict vehicles during a beach assault this also entailed scratch-building deep wading trunks….

LEFT TO RIGHT

1x UK32 Churchill AVRE, as is.

1x AVRE Log Carpet carrier – this depicts the vehicle on the beach after it’s dropped its ‘carpet’ of logs and deep wading trunks.

4x AVRE with Log Carpet. In reality the logs were roped together, which in 1/285 scale would mean drilling two 0.07mm holes through each of the 20 logs – I didn’t attempt that!

4x AVRE with Bobbin Type D ie. ‘carpet’ layer.

4x AVRE carrying Small Box Girder (SBG) bridge. The bridge I used is a 1/300 scale H&R item - to which I’ve added bank-seats rear and forward, two short ramps at the front, plus the jib. There should be cables attached from the (scratch-built) winch at the rear of the AVRE, through the jib, to the front end of the bridge – however I opted to be able to dismount the bridges – so the cables have to be imagined!

A Lane Clearance team. Two Sherman Crab flails (GHQ UK61 with modifications), AVRE Bobbin, AVRE Log Carpet, AVRE SBG, Armoured D7 Angle Dozer (the D7 is a 3D printed item from MoM).

And, a Lane Clearance team wading in about 3’ of water (this D7 is a H&R item…)
