What's a good way to model packed snow on the vehicle bases?

I admit I have no experience yet in creating snow bases for my models although I have done snow for my Terrain Maker. Those pictures are in my Pete's Place on the Forum.

I know that Monument Hobbies has a snow texture designed for bases but I have not used it yet. There are some other commercially available snow textures out there as well. When I get around to do mine, I will probably use the Monument Hobbies one.

One other thing I have heard used before is baking soda. I remember seeing a guy with some snow covered roofs for his buildings and he had used a combination of white glue sprinkled with baking soda.

Hopefully someone else can chime in here with some other ideas.

I'll give the baking soda a crack on some base off cut. Pics to follow.

There are a couple of companies that make snow material for terrain ranging from US$6-7/package up to US$15-20/package. You would add the snow like any other form of terrain. (e.g. dirt, type of grass etc)

That works best for me with the best results.

Yeah, I did a bit of a search around and I think you might be right - the least coarse version of that paste. I can get that in Oz, so will have to go hunting.

It seems the baking powder might turn yellow with age, which probably isn't a good look!

I had that issue with my Flames of War snow bases I did about 20 years ago. Baking soda and wood/PVA glue. They all started to turn yellow to some degree.

I based few of my Warhammer minis with snow paste from "noch" (a model railway company) and was pleased with the result.

Thanks! That is exactly the effect I'm looking for. And I can get it (sort of) locally.
