D-Day Beach

Post by Bob2000 »

Hello,

(please note that I have already post the same question in ODGW forum)

I am making a D-Day like plage 6'X8'. My idea was to have a landing in the beach while the German rush reinforcement to the area. The German reinforcement will be slow by the British paratrooper ) and, the 3 thrd Canadian Army will be slow down by the beach... I am planing a bridge board and a side board to make my setup look more like Juno beach when my generic beach will be completd.

In fact, the mini campain I am planning will look more like a meeting engagement than a beach assault.

I am sorry, I dont know how to post a picture. But I do have pictures of my beach in progress.

I am using GHQ excellent models for the Canadian and German troops. I use Leva production truly great bunkers and LCT-4 and LCT-5 ships (wich GHQ dont make yet)

Right now, I guot enough LCT and LCM-3 to land 40 tanks simultaneouslty plus 3 company in LCVP (wich are hoing to be replaced by more appropriate LCA).

The boards are:

One 6'x2' sea board
One 6'X2' generic beach board
One 6'X2' Land board with a destroyed town and a hill. It will feature a V-1 lauch site as a reminder that Canadian clear lot,s of those sites after the landing.
One 6'x2' Land board with features to be determined, but with terrain suitable for landing gliders ( I have already bought 2 GHQ Horsa Combat Command plus aditional paratroopers). German reinforcement entry points will be along this board.

If you will like to see a picture of my beach, let me know and I email you one.

I am planning to use my beach for playing with my friends and for making Micro-Armor demos for our club. We care only 3 players and wish to expand...

Have you done something like this before ? Any advices you can share with me ? I know it's huge, this is why I am planning this as a mini-campain.

Thanks

You'll have to post pics. We use to have beach boards (two 2'x4') years ago and they attracted great attention at the cons. I can't seem to find any photos though.

Hello,

Thanks for your posts. This a generic beach at 1/300, or about 12'' for 100 ''real'' meters.

Juno beach had a river running parralel to it (cross by a bridge) and a ** CENSORED ** with a harbour. As the river and ** CENSORED ** are quite wide, it's difficult to make a real, up to scale table. And the terrain between the river and the beach is a bit dull in the sector I have choosen.

So, it's not the ''real' thing. In fact, the houses and village will have to be much farther. I must make a nice looking table, wich offer a good game while being sturdy enough to play on it (it's not a diorama) and not to much expensive and one that I can reasonably hope to finish this summer.

I've got them from Heller plastic kit. It is made in 1/400 scale but fit good. LCVP are from Revell ship.

Good luck, Przemek
