Modern Aufklarer Battalion TO&E

Post by av8rmongo »

Anyone have the TO&E for the Bundeswehr PanzerAufklarer Battalion for Army Structure 4 and 5? I had a link at one time but it doesn't seem to be working for me and Thomas' Yahoo gropup doesn't seem to have Modern German TO&Es beyond tank companies under Army Structure 6 (unless I missed them).

Thomas,

I'm looking for the mix of Leopards, Luchs, Fuchs and other vehicles in the 80's-90's Armored Reconnaissance Battalions attached to Panzer / Panzer Grenadier Divisions.

Paul

P.S. I don't have access to your group from work so I'll have to check again when I get home.

If anyone is interested I did a little further investigation and if I've done the translation properly here is the new TO&E for the Division level Armored Recon Battalion:

AUFKLARER BN (1981-1990)
HQ:
1 LEOPARD
2 LUCHS
4 M-113 FUE/FU
4 M-113 SAN
3 BPZ-2
9 TPz-1 FUCHS / RASIT

HEAVY ARMORED RECON CO: (X2)
HQ:
1 LEOPARD
1M-113 FUE/FU
2 & 3 HEAVY RECON PLT (EACH WITH):
6 LEOPARD
BRIGADE RECON PLT:
8 LUCHS

MIXED ARMORED RECON CO:
HQ:
1 TPz-1 FUE/FU
BRIGADE RECON PLT:
8 LUCHS
HEAVY RECON PLT:
7 LEOPARD
LIGHT RECON PLT:
8 LUCHS

LT ARM CO:
HQ:
1 TPz-1 FUCHS
1 - 3 PLT (EACH WITH):
3 TPz-1 (1 W / MILAN)

The new totals would be
34 LEOPARD
34 LUCHS
10 TPz-1 FUCHS
9 TPz-1 RASIT
2 TPz-1 FUE/FU
6 M-113 FUE/FU
4 M-113 SAN
3 BPz-2

What is not clear to me is whether the three platoons listed as "Brigadespahzug" with 8 LUCHS are in fact the same Recon Platoons that are found at the Brigade level or if those are truly separate formations. If the Brigades do in fact have their own organic platoons, that is to say the platoons mentioned above are not farmed out to the subordinate Brigades, that would mean a Panzer or Panzer Grenadier Division fields a total of 58-64 Luchs (34 with the Division level Battalion and 8-10 with each of the three brigades). Does anyone know if that is correct?

Paul --

Over on Tank-Net.org, this was discussed at the end of last week. There is an official FRG org chart under the NATO OOB thread -- I believe it is on the fourth page of that discussion.

ferret,

I checked it out on Tank-Net and it does appear that the "Brigade" platoons do get farmed out to the subordinate units so thanks for that!

Thomas,

I'll try to copy it over to the TO&E site tonight, I don't have access from my work computer.
