Where do you find all of those kits (UK stuff, would be my guess)?

Very nice work! Having spent twenty years as an engineer in a volunteer fire company I can tell you it is a great job all around. I'd feel at home on that pump panel, for sure!

One quick point is I believe they would be booster reels, red line, up top of the pump panel. If so they would be a red colored, solid rather than collapsible hose line. Used for brush fires, overhaul after a building fire and washing down roadways after vehicle accidents, etc. Although the "Wash-down" after an accident is now frowned on environmentally. I don't have the model so I don't know if they show that or not. Also, beautiful job of painting all of the caps for the intake and discharge pipes, compartment door handles, hard suction fittings. diamond plate. If this is practice I can't wait to see your next work!!

Looks like a nice job as a model as well. Ladder on Officer's side and appears to be Pike Poles on the Engineers side. Compartment handles molded for painting, etc.

Star, here is the link to LMM now mind you they are moderls kits, and tend to be a bit rough
but as you'll see in a day or two they come with killer detail parts that make them stand out,Let's see C&C are killer as the ones GHQ makes GHQ's ace is they make lots !!! plus they are so easy to bash !!! C&C killer super clean but far and few types but also easy to bash
LMM a moderls kit but super detail aparts that make them easy to bash,Like the Zem Master said."you buy a box with parts,it's up to you to build it" or take the parts and build something"?? something like that Nothing worse then going ot a swapmeet/ running show and five hunder people have the same house, engine or WMK built all the same

I can't wait till the first show this season and I show up with my Kato F40ph's in BN and MRL colors and lets not forget my SD70 in BCR !!!!!!
DUHHHHHHHH I forgot the link !!!!

As in pass mobile crane builds I need to make the base plate solid/flat to do this I use a penny as a tmeplate

Image

Image

I trace the penny onto a pecie of plastic,no size really jsut what is sitting on the hobby table and what is easy to find, cut it out

Image

Image

once it's cut out I file it smooth on both sides this helps thin it out and preps for primer.

and here is the base in place with the crane cab

Image

What do you do? what do you do only need something really thin !! I live to far from anywhere that would have anything I could use, mmmmm "think pinky, thinky'

YEAH !!!!!!!!

Image

Cut out what I needed and hten trimmed ot fit

Image

Yes, the hose on the reels on the top of the pump panel would be red; called the booster line by many departments although some departments called it the red line for obvious reasons. The reel itself you can keep black, different departments painted them differently. Some used silver, some the body color of the vehicle, some black. Any color you can imagine. The hose itself at that time would have been a red hard rubber line. Didn't collapse and that's why it rolled up on the reel. The larger diameter cotton-jacket hose in the bed was soft and would be drained and flattened and staged accordion-like in the hose bed.

And PM anytime you need to.

SO this is where LMMM stands out from the crowd, even if N scale in the UK is 1:148 I can live with that when it comes to detail parts, they win hands down,Trust me the pictures do not do them justice.

The other area that that win hands down in in this one kit I have 4 options wreaking ball, drag line, clam shell and hook !! what I don't use here I can use later or make a laod for a trailer or flatcar

Now with all do repsect to GHQ you know I love your kits god knows I spend enough on them each year, but as a example the wheeld front end log loader and the wheeled front end bucket loader, same kit right, this modeler feels that if you gave the moderls that kit with options to build either way you would or should sell more one would think ??

Let's face it you guys are the only show around for most people I would jump on that band wagon really fast you have the modl raise the price by a buck or two.WHen I order the LMM I check the excahnge rate daily !!!!sometimes I'm the windshield sometimes I'm the bug ! ok back to building !!

SO as much as i wnated to do a dragline the cleint wants a bucket so its a bucket here is both sides glued rom the inside and with teh 9mm rod bend and in place,For the life of me for the hunders of GHQ buckets I have built I still can't seem to bend the little PE parts the right way The LMM is really easy, this time out I built the rods as one long rod ,each side I ahve buit it with four rods.

Image

Here is the bucket rods glued in place on the top section there

Image

One side of the shell has a small tab,I drilled out the hole this is for the anit-swap cable, wait way one or peice of black thread,a fast look see on the hobby table annd I find some N scale chain and some super hard but super thin wire !!

here you see the wire threaded thur the chain bottom bit as been cut and glued

Image

pulling the chain tight as the glue dries

Image

Image

top section of wire cut to a wee tiny stub and glued !! I'm happy I have cut the shell before and the chain looks soooooooooo much better

SO is this a problem or me being to nit picky The GHQ body comes with two reels the way I have built this I need one relel for the boom, one reel for the bucket, one reel for the closed bucket cable and one for the anit whatever cable,The cable for the boom will come out of the body,I drilled a hole on the back side it will be feed thur the bottom inside the end wrapped around a toothpick and glued then thur the hole to the boom and to the back reel,

Image

the front reel will go to the bucket and the sway cable to the reel in the front below the body

Image

Question is I still need a fourth reel for the close cable ?? or am I reading to much into this ???

It's not a big deal. Anybody who was never in it wouldn't know the difference. Leave it that way or carefully paint the hose over red. With the level of detail you did you should be nothing but happy with the work.

And I am enjoying watching the progression on the crane. Thanks for that! Very cool and instructive.
