10mm scale - recommendations for repping the War of 1812?

Post by Nerroth »

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone who was familiar with the various 10mm Napoleonic figures in the Micro Force range could suggest a good set of representative models for British/Canadian and American figures for the War of 1812?

Also, are there any 10mm figs available which would do for the likes of the (Lower) Canadien militia (tuques and all!) and for native warriors, such as those under Tecumseh?

On a side note, what of representing troops in British North America during the time of the US Civil War (such as the troops who fought at Ridgeway and elsewhere against Fenian raiders)?

Thanks for any help you could provide.

Hi.
I often thought of doing 1812 with the GHQ 10's and bought a number of British infantry to do this. The American troops usually had British style uniforms but with blue or grey coats (Scotts bde had the Grey coats) They also had the Belgic shako late war and stovepipe shako's early war. I found that ODGW has a 10mm Rev war line that has Indians but never got any to see how well the look or match. And now ODGW passed the line to AIM in Colorado..

Not sure about the Fenian raids but it sounds interesting if you find a source of British/Canadian fig.s let me know.

Above is a link to a French site that has a nice color plate of American uniforms for 1812.

Hope this helps..

BTW what set of rules were you thinking of using?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm thinking of having a go at converting the Warmaster Ancients ruleset to fit the Napoleonic/Late Colonial era - from the Seven Years' War to the War of 1812 - making sure to fit the North American theatre into the proceedings!

What is the site for the producer of those native figures? Can't find them on Google...

bleep... sorry

The company name is really GFI, They are the dist. of minfigs here in the states. They bought out AIM (I think) and have a ARW line that has the indians. I have never seen the figs in person not sure how well they match. I did see there ACW line and think the quallity not up to GHQ's level.

Hope this helps

Guys, may I politely suggest you edit out the link to the site of other manufacturer who makes products that compete with GHQ?

I understand that the discussion context was on figures which GHQ doesn't make. But the site sells a line of products which compete quite directly with GHQ's 10mm line. Our hosts here, the good folks at GHQ, have given us pretty much free reign to discuss whatever we please. But they have asked us clearly not to post links to their competitors' online stores. It seems a perfectly reasonable guideline to me, and I think it would be bad form to abuse their hospitality.

Sorry for causing any trouble!

Is there any word if GHQ themselves will have a go at 10mm figures for the War of 1812?

Thanks for the heads up Mk1.

I didn't even think about the competition angle. But once you see the figs they are no competition for GHQ :)

Just wondering - what bases (if any) do the 10mm figs come with?

I was going to get the 20mmx40mm bases that GW make for Warmaster, but it would be handy if they were included...

Also, does GHQ have a European distributor for retail?
