Naval Rules Systems?

Post by Rivers »

I'm looking for naval rules systems, WW2 or Modern. Links would be great, too.

Thanks,
Rivers

I can recommend Harpoon 4 the rules published by clash of arms games, there are scenarios booklets etc available or Harpoon 3 as a downloadable or cd game. for mods.

As I haven't seen any GHQ rules for modern naval combat I'm assuming that it's ok to post this info.

I saw that on TMP. I was wondering if it might be any good. I'll try and find it on EBay.

Would it not be OK to post info on rules-systems already made by GHQ otherwise? To the best of my knowledge, there are no Naval GHQ rules, so that's why I asked.

for Moderns, I've also seen ShipWreck - which are described as 'fast-play'

personally don't have any moderns though....

Rivers,

I second the vote for Harpoon and the other Clash of Arms products, Command at Sea for WWII, Fear God and Dreadnought for WWI and Dawn of the Rising Sun for pre-Dreadnought. The game system for all of them is derivative so if you learn one learning the others is not to far a stretch. I think there is a fair balance between playability / detail and realism and there is an active user group with novices and experts alike that discuss rules, tactics and conduct Play By Email games and campaigns. I'm not familiar with the other games really so unfortunately I can't offer any meanigful comparisons.

I have an extra copy of Harpoon 4 rules and Data Annexes. If you're interested PM me.

And it was said:

GHQ has not limited us from discussing other vendors or their goods. They have given us this forum for discussing the hobby, and by all evidence they want it to become a premier (ie: "the best damn") wargaming forum.

From what I have seen, all they have asked is that we not post links directly to their competitors' online storefronts.

That said, several of us try to refrain from naming direct competitors. That is an entirely voluntary behavior, which seems to be tied to the personal sense of propriety and manners of the individual.

Or something like that.

Disclaimer: I do not speak for GHQ. I could well be wrong in my interpretation of their views of the forum. Heaven knows I've been wrong before (as folks around here are kind enough to point out to me from time to time). I am NOT trying to be a self-appointed forum cop -- just trying to help out. I have no means, no interest, and no need of soliciting compliance. You are free to disregard all that I have said. Every word. Or any selected subset. Your choice.

That's pretty much the way I understand it. There seems to be greater lattitude when discussing rules too. My guess is that any set of rules we use and talk about is okay, as long as we're using GHQ Micro-Armour with them.

They are afterall a miniatures company. They probably can at most sell one set to each collector. But each collector is not going to buy just one model.

See my armor rules:
