The Last Square,21 October '06

Post by jb »

I would like to say thanks to the guys from Indiana for coming up to Madison Wisconsin this last saturday for a game. That would be Kevin (Fullmeatljacket),Jason (Pitfall),Doug (Roughrider),Dave,Jim, and Reid(?). I had a great time and so did the guys up here. I hoped you guys liked "our" hobby shop.
The game was West Germany 1972,with the Soviets as agressors, and the US as the defenders in the area. We played "campaign" style with a map covering a large area around Bamberg.
The results ended up with the Soviets as completely out maneuvering the US forces. The Soviets pulled this off by screening their moves with effective recon, decieving the US (finally) to committ to an area away from where a pontoon bridge was set across the Main River. With this bridge the US was cutoff from their parent brigade thus ending the game for the day.
The US commander now fully understands the use of a force fully committed to nothing but recon. Also I really didn't give him too much in that category(didn'y have them painted  ) In any case I thought it was a wonderful game.
Thanks again guys, see you at the next game...
BTW Pifall did take pictures

Yes, I did take photos. I recently set up an account on Flickr. You can check them out here:

I can't compress them at home, otherwise I would have posted them in this message.

And yes, we had a lot of fun. The shop there is great, and I would like to thank the folks at The Last Square for their great service and wonderful selection of everything miniature! If you ever get the chance to go to Madison, WI, go there!
I wish I had something witty to say...

Great pics, Pitt. Looks/reads like it was quite a game.

Oy, I'm jealous, its been probably 10 years since my modern Soviets/Russians got onto a wargaming table!

Oh, and those Italians in-process ... looking good! Sure would be nice to mount a joint Italian assault on some unsuspecting U.S. unit in Tunisia some time (so long as they don't have too many of those new M4A1's hanging about).

Yes JB it was a great time and I love your hobby store you all are so lucky to have such a store. Their hospitality was great and very much appreciated.

As for the game it was well organized and was great to have it keep moving at an almost sprinting pace. The final battle of the day did see the Russians lose a large amount of there force as they tried to cross the bridge and enter the city.

It was a great time and cant wait till some time in November to game with you all again. All i can say is next time i go to The last square will bring more money.

And mark 1 you are always welcome what would a airfare to chicago be for the weekend??
