German Radio Antenna

Post by BlackDragon »

Does anyone have any sites that give a good picture representation, blueprint of wwII german tanks. Especially the radio antennas. I am trying to find information on the German Stug tank desroyers and there antenna placements. Also i am trying to figure out if they have one or two radio antennas. I know that typically the command vehicle of a company had another antenna, but i was trying to find out if the stug tank destroyers had two. I have a couple of 1/72 scale models of them that have two antennas but I dont know if that would hold true for every TD in the company.

I looked in every source I have, Osprey books, painting guides etc. and all the Stug pictures I saw had one antenna. I think you would be correct in modeling them with one antenna and putting two on your command vehicle.

Chamberlain and Doyle's "Encyclopedia of German Tanks of World War Two" has numerous pictures of Stug's. If the Stug has only one antenna, it's on the left hand side. Several of the photo's show vehicles with two antennae, so those are presumably commnad vehicles. The command radios used a different frequency band than the 'all vehicle' receivers, so they would need a different antenna. My guess is that only the company and platoon commanders vehicles would have the extra set.
