Skypig,
Contact David Luff at dluff20164@yahoo.com
I used to live in DC and the guys who play at Game Parlor in Chantilly VA are great! David runs modern microarmor and is a really nice guy. There's a group which meets every Friday at Game Parlor (different games/periods every Friday...). There's also a store called Eagle and Empire that has an active historicals group. Quantico isn't precisely "Northern" Virginia in the DC suburb sense but you'll certainly be close enough to game in in Chantilly and at Eagle & Empire (near-ish Fort Belvoir).

I live in the DC area but due to work life balance issues haven't been able to play much but I'm always hopeful for an opportunity.

Thats ok Paul, I have a whopping 2 games under my belt, neither was completed. I'll just continue acquiring and painting. Thats the problem with grown-ups having hobbies. About the time you have the have the money to pursue your wants and wishes.....you don't have time to enjoy them. Such is life. Work to live, live to work. ..... and then there is the wife factor.

Hi guys --
I play in the group in Chantilly. We started up late last year, and have managed to get about 10 good games in so far this year. Most are set in an ongoing 1988 campaign, which we really just use as a framework to set up interesting and plausible scenarios.
Some notable ones we have run lately:
Three linked battles set on Jutland, pitting a reinforced USMC regiment against parts of a Cat A and Cat B Soviet division (didn't end well for the Marines, but Soviets took heavy losses)
Polish Marines and Paras invading Zealand and fighting Danish territorials. Need to run some follow-up games on this line.
West Germans trying to dislodge Soviet Paras SW of Hamburg (failed, resulting in Jutland being cut off)
US light infantry operating in the airmobile role trying to contain a Soviet Cat A breakthrough (Soviet drive contained)
Soviets trying to break encirclement -- hitting NATO (Belgians, WGermans) from two directions. (Soviets took a horrifying beating)
There have been a number of others as well, including ones involving Czechs, Brits and the Dutch.
We use Fistful of TOWs, which are easy to learn and quick to play. Nothing against GHQ's rules or Combined Arms, just that we all had FFT, and not everyone had the others.
Rules lawyering is kept to a minimum. We have five regular players and perhaps four or five others that occasionally play. There are at least two games a month, sometimes more. Usually two Friday night games, along with some Friday afternoon games.
If you (or anyone else) is interested, please drop me a line at ferret701(at) yahoo.com

Chantilly isn't all that far from Quantico, looks to be about 45 minutes, so hopefully it wouldn't be a big ordeal for me to try and head up there on a friday night or during the weekend. Right now I only have USMC forces but have recently branched out into third world forces. Mostly so I can play solitaire, but hell If I can find a crew to game with that would be great. Once I get settled in I'll have to head up there and watch a game.

Sounds good -- as a group, we can cover just about any NATO army (I'm currently building Greece and Italy), so our scenarios tend not to be just M1s vs T80s. We've also given the Marines a pretty good workout over the last six months.
One thing that we've discovered through all these games is the utility of plain old dismounted infantry -- they can be a cast iron ** CENSORED ** to dig out of heavy terrain, and the advent of ATGMs means they can really reach out and touch those that ignore them. This has also pointed out a serious weakness in the Soviet forces -- they generally lack sufficient infantry to really dig out dug-in NATO defenders, particularly higher quality troops like US Marines or the Brits (who have some fierce AT weapons in the form of LAW80s). Artillery certainly helps, but doesn't always make up the difference.

Sounds good to me. I'm geared more towards a MEU type TO&E. Tons of infantry HMMWVS and LAV's, some AAV's, a few M1A1's and Arty. I'm real big on aviation so I'm loaded with CH-53's, 46's, H1's and AV8B's. I almost have an entire MEU in 1:1. When I can afford some LCACs I'll be set. I definately want to branch out though. Was thinking about Iranians for my next big project. Will have to finish my Marines first though. I will absolutely head up to your neck of the woods for a look see.

Great scott man, Marines without rotary wing assault support. Well I guess you have to keep the games fair. Cobras providing CAS and heavy lifters dropping an infantry company in your enemys rear might be a little unbalanced. Realism can be a real ** CENSORED ** somethimes.
I'll have to bring my Aviation Combat Element up there to mix things up.

If I can make it out there should I bring something or do you all have all the micro armor you need?
