I have read that one and the old old book that was in a 'boys history series' from the 60s that was just labeled 'The Barbary Pirates'. I think it is humbling to see how delicate the US was in that day and age. That and Presley O Bannon was just really cool to read about.

Presley O'Bannon was indeed a character and he was talented musician that took a fiddle everywere he went. He entertained the troops regularly on the march to Derna. I believe he is buried near you in Frankfort, KY. His grave is marked "The Hero of Derne".

He sure is buried here, at the state capitol Frankfort. I have been meaning to go put a small Marine Corps flag there and take a picture for the Sgt Grit newsletter.
