TO - Modern Turkish Army

Post by Devildog »

Does anyone have a reliable TO for modern Turkish forces - I confess I simply haven't had the time to do the research myself.

I am working on ideas for a modern/near future campaign set in the Middle East/Caucasus/Central Asia region and have been interested to see the diverse mix of equipment fielded in recent news reports about the deteriorating situation with the Kurds - BTR-70's or 80's alongside Panhard VBL's.

Any info appreciated.

Here's a list of hardware and amount of each in service:

Not a TO&E but still an interesting mix of hardware.

The following document provides a very rough guide but nothing below battalion level. See page 136 for the Turkish info

Hi,

just a tiny addition:
On recent photos in the German newspaper which I read daily, there are still BTR-60PB shown. From what I know they received them from East-German NVA stocks after the German unification. Later they added BTR-80 purchased from the CIS.

As far as I know the Turkish Army does not operate Panhard VBLs but their own (similar looking) Otokar Akrep and Otokar Cobra series.

Kind regards,
Ben

The Middle East Military Balance from the Jaffe Centre in Israel is a good source; it is updated annually. a version of it used to be available for free on the web, but I can't find it. Check Amazon etc for a used couple a year or two old.

Man, I'd hate to say it, but can things over there get any worse than they are now?
