How many keep operational methods secret? (Example: Lauch sequence of a carrier. or Covering a carrier with the escorts active radar.)

When I was playing Harpoon in the early 90's it was difficult to keep things quiet when I had to let the game controller know what I was doing. I was amazed that turn over turn most people never picked up on my patterns.

Here are some Seabattle ships I ordered. They are real hideous IMHO. If I had the oppurtunity to see them first I would have left them be... I just want to share with you so you can decide next time you get a chance to buy Seabattle.BTW these two ships cost $42.85 with shipping!!!
GHQ I really need some modern ships!

jb,

Let me start by saying that I love SeaBattle minis. They're not quite as detailed or clean as GHQ but they're better than most other companies out there and they have a very impressive range of ships available. Having said that I will add that I don't know what happened to the most recent batch. I bought three ships before Christmas, all of them arrived in much the same condition as yours. This is not typical for SeaBattle. I already owned two LSTs when I ordered the third, I was pretty sure what I was going to get and I was unpleasantly surprised. If I were you I would talk to the good folks at {Insert Company Name Here} and tell them what happened. I didn't because I thought it was a fluke but now it seams like a more systemic issue. And since they come in little white boxes all taped shut there's very little chance they know what they're importing.

Just to show you what you should have gotten here are some pics of ships I picked up over the last 4-5 years. They're primed but otherwise straight out of the box. Some of the gun barrels / missile rails are broken or missing - not GHQ quality but very usable.

Just as an aside I have a Yahoo Group "Tow Tank" where I intend to evaluate the various 1/2400 scale ships in my collection so that others can see what they're in for before they buy. I started it but haven't done much lately so there is only a couple of entries. Unfortunately it wouldn't have prevented what happened to you because the SeaBattle examples I have up until recently were all good. Check it out if you're interested. This is inspiring me to do more work on it.

jb,

I talked to the good folks at {Insert Company Name Here} and they offered to make things right if I wanted to send my ship back. I'm going to be kitbashing it anyway so there's no need but if I were you I would call them and work something out. Like GHQ their customer service is top notch.

So everyone knows, theses ships are imported from Austria and come packaged in little cardboard boxes taped closed. The US dealer doesn't open them or repackage them so he had no idea what condition they're in before he ships them out. I told him pictures were posted on this forum so he could see for himself the condition of these ships. They've been around as long as GHQ and are keenly interested to maintain their customer base.

There is another US manufacturer (PM me if you want names) that has US production rights for some of the SeaBattle line, but not all. They are much cheaper for the vessels they have but you can't get the more obscure ships from them. If you're interested in them the catalog numbers that begin ** CENSORED ** are SeaBattle, if it doesn't begin with SB then its their own product.

Welcome to the world of 1/2400! Which is why I've been so profoundly upset that GHQ hasn't done anything with their modern line in FIVE years or so.

Paul,
The pictures of your ships are really what I was expecting. I saw the Sea battle ships on other sites and forums, so I assumed I was pretty safe on ordering them from the retailer without viewing any pictures of the ships. I was shocked when I opened the "white boxes". I think the thing that really irked me was the price over $42.00!!. Anyways I did finally get ahold of the retailer (my emails were rejected 4 times with 2 different addys from two different machines in the course of the week, I ended up calling). They were nice enough to take them back off my hands. When I talked to the fella he said "..that's how all Sea Battles come". I don't really know if he saw what I had before he said that, I just don't know...
I am still interested in getting some if they are half decent like I anticipated. I really don't expect other 1/2400 to be exactly up to GHQ standards. Also GHQ just doesn't make everything...

jb,

Those are definitely NOT the way all SeaBattle minis come! Like I said I've got between 20-30 of them over the last few years and I've only had 1 klunker and that was three weeks ago.
