Our FLGS has about that much space devoted to Reaper, WarMachine, and WH Fantasy. I wish they had that much GHQ stuff.

In Groton, CT there is a great wargame store called The Citadel. They have a huge GHQ display. But here is the best part-the original prices are still on the packs. Prices as low as 5.95 & 6.95!!! I cleaned them out of all the cheap moderns but I never really touched the WWII stuff. As stock was replaced current sticker prices were applied but the old ones were never changed!!! That was absolute heaven. The store is also a goldmine of long out of print boxed wargames & Ospreys. I live in Arizona now and it's been a year since I was back but the store is still open, I still get e-mail updates. If you are ever in the New England area stop by and say hello to Pat for me, and don't forget your wallet!!!

Games+ in Mt Prospect, a suburb of Chicago has a good selection of GHQ, it just isn't displayed that well. They keep it in drawers, but do carry a pretty full line of WWII, Modern and Micronauts. They seem to cater more to the FOW/Fantasy Gamer. They do carry a great selection of books and mags as well as Vallejo paints.

One of the big hobby shops in the Bay Area, San Antonio Hobbies in Palo Alto, used to keep their GHQ micro inventory behind the counter in drawers. Actually in long thin cardboard pull-outs (one pack wide).

But they had a rack of models on display. A single piece of each item, usually painted up reasonably well, and glued down to a wooden board with the item name and stock number on a label. It took up about a 30-inch wide part of the shelf under their glass counter-top, and showed the models to very good effect. I have to believe that it was a very efficient use of floorspace, but it required an avid collector/painter working that part of the store to get all of the display models painted up.

Oh, and they used to carry Brand C too. But it seems they never painted up the Brand C models. So I expect that the GHQ stuff sold a lot better. Is sure LOOKED better under the glass!

But alas, they stopped stocking the micros. And then the store went away altogether. Sigh....

There's a store in Denver where I stopped in last fall that had an eye watering amount of GHQ on display. I think the name was Attack Zone or something similar - I mentioned it in an earlier thread. Anyway the aisle was maybe 20ft long with GHQ stocked on both sides. I think they had something from all the GHQ lines. I spent about $150 that day on moderns. In Colorado Springs there was a Hobby Towne or similar chain staore that had a very impressive stock as well. The difference was theirs was all at 50-60% off, I think they were discontinuing the line. Another $150 later I left a very satisfied customer.

Its definitely a great shop... I did a pretty good job cleaning out much of their older stock about 3 years ago when I was in the area for a wedding. Best stock of GHQ stuff I've seen.

Sad to hear of another retailer taking GHQ off the list.

However, one of the biggest retail hobby shops in the SF Bay Area, D & J Hobby and Crafts, has recently put GHQ back ON the list! Image

For years they carried an extensive stock. Then, about 6 or 8 years back they put it all in the "final close-out" bin, and micro-armor was no more. But I recently visited the story, and they have GHQ back on the shelves!

They don't have much of a stock of micro-armor in blister-packs. But they have at least 10 different combat commands, and a full set of GHQ terrain maker products in stock, including the magic game tables. They also have almost as many micro-naught blisters as they have micro-armor.

I had to buy something. Not that they had enough variety to offer anything I wanted that I didn't already have... but still I had to, if for no other reason than "pour encourager les autres". So now I have two blisters of Polish Czanka wagons in my to-be-painted box, rather than just one. Oh well, maybe I'll clip the MGs off of a few and make 'em civilian farm carts or something...

D & J is an awesome place to visit/shop...and GHQ on the shelves is the icing on the cake. I have in-laws in the area and this gives me extra incentive to make the 500 mile road trip from San Diego to "see the family..."

Ah, Mk-1, you're fortunate indeed to have a shop ADDING "micro" products.
Been years since I've known of a local shop with GHQ, or even one that will order it.
Last to go was a small rack at the local "Hobby Town" franchise.

JB- Any idea why Last Square decided to drop GHQ?

Taczankas? I've also been thinking about removing the MG and adding low sides to it- might be a good cart to transport mortars & such.
Another thought I had was to cut off the body just behind the seat/front wheels and use it as a light gun-limber. Might be able to use the remnant/rear wheels to build a supply cart/ trailer then...

I think our hobby is doome dto be a mail order only hobby. I don't even go to the hobby store anymore except to get paints. And head to the art store for brushes small enough to paint this stuff.

I wish it was easier to order from the UK. That seems to be the best option for 6mm, 1/300 or 1/285th scale items that GHQ doesn't make. That is where Last Square helps cause you have a uS dealer to work with.

My thoughts

Although shopping online is fast convienient etc. I have bought many times through this website. However, I think that we need to strive to keep as many brick and mortar gaming stores around as possible for these reasons

1. it provides us with a place to go to to get out of the house.
2. we actually get to socialize with people and interact with them. WOW!! that seems so original in this day in age of everyone hovering around their computer, I-pods and text messages like they going to miss something.
3. Oh! and did I mention its a place to go to to get out of the house.

Anyhow my game store here in Cleveland - The Warzone Matrix has a little area display dedicated to the impulsive buyer looking into GHQ products. Currently I place my orders though him. saves on shipping for me and at the same time helping to support a local gaming establishment stay alive in this economy. Oh and it allows me the opportunity to get out of the house

Sincerely

Carl

JB,

Any idea of what they still have in stock? I'm may be in Madison for business later this week and may get a chance to pop in.
