I would like to get in but, I believe that using just one ruleset is not really necessary. As Paul (Av8termonger) stated this was debated before.

While I can understand the multiple system argument I don't agree with it. From my perspective it's a lot harder to track a campaign that uses several systems. That is why I have decided to use only GHQ Modern.

I don't want to exclude anyone but I also want to setup this campaign in a certain way and very few systems will allow for that.

I guess I should start counting now...may need the time.

If I wish to be US, can I use my French, German [west], UK, Italians, Canadians, etc as well? Adjacent territory or behind my front line? If Ii have 1200 [estimate] Abrams [even if I use my M1A2 as M1A1s] do I put them in one hex, is there a limit to the number in a hex? If so can a force pass through a hex occupied by friendlies even if both are at maximum number of figures? What happens if attacked during the pass through sense the 'defender' would have twice as many figures? I do not know of anyone local that has enough Soviet forces to match up? One may have 30-60 Russian tanks, I can loan him stuff. But he probably will not want to play out the senario, and call it.....

Do not wish to present issues, but rather deal with them now vs. later.

One idea is the player provide you with the composition of each of our units, suggest total of each type, i.e. 44 M1A1, 28 M2 Bradleys, Scout section of 9 M3 and 5 M1 (105), 6 M107 mortar vehicles, 4 hummers w/.50 cal. Then when engagement is over, I took the terrain, but lost 6 M3, 2 damaged M1 from recon force, lost 3 M2 and 4 infantry stands, lost 2 hummers, and 2 destroyed M1a1 and 3 damaged M1A1. You would have provided the opposing force structure for the battle and similar report losing 30 of 60 T-72 and 22 of 66 BMP-2s... That Russian player from the strategic game may have played the game as well against his neighbor with the battle as a draw [bad die rolls or momma calls you to dinner/take kids to dinner]. What is your result or determination? Or do you determine who gets to play the tactical game to determine what happens and how if influences the startegic game. In this aspect, intel is know as to total force structure.

So if I am defending in prepared positions, with a small force of hummers and 14 LAV-25 [marines] along with 5 M60A1s, vs 94 T-72 and 36 BMP-2s, I may decide to pull back before we play just based upon the numbers. If I have 12 LAV Tows and 17 M60A1, and enough arty support may defend to inflict death & destruction upon the enemy, then pull back. If I did not know the enemy structure, I may fight it out, thinking we are more balanced. So one side or the other may not wish to engage just knowing total force structure. I am on the board for a turn, then pull off.

Well good luck with that then.

Hey redleg it looks like I'll be moving back to San Diego at the end of the summer. Maybe we can put a game together or maybe even a gaming group when I get settled in.

That's awesome, Paul! I grew up in Chula Vista so I'm down that way a lot. We'll have to get together for beer and tanks. You going to be on ship or shore duty?

I'm retiring, maybe do some gov't contracting or go back to school. Hopefully I'll have more time for painting and gaming.

Thanks to GHQ's new "iregulars" the South American and African conflicts will be hard to find figures for. On the bright side you have the third world armies. :?

The "irregulars" have been renamed to "Third World Regulars."
Real irregulars (sub-Saharan) are promised for later this year.

US Marines in WW3

I think landing two Marine Divisions augmented by the Tiger Brigade of the 1st Armored (transported from Kuwait) in the Baltic behind the Soviet charge could cut them off from their supplies. :D
