Consolidated Micronaut Wish List

Post by pmskaar »

Hi Don

Thanks very much for continuing to update this list. Of course everyone else's picks don't necessarily jive with mine but those are the breaks.
The new South Carolina was painted by me. I will probably be painting the Vanguard soon and since this is actually a post war ship, I was wondering what colors she wore including the deck. I checked this out on Google but all I could see was a few black and white shots which indicate the hull was painted in a very light gray but definitely a monochromatic scheme. If anyone here has information on the correct colors let me know. I use Humbrol paints and I'm okay with doing a little mixing to get a close approximation.

I got this info from my Naval Camouflage 1914 - 1945 book. It is based on the Admiralty Standard (light) scheme from the end of the war. (I l left out the hull panel painted B20 dark blue)

Hull and Superstructure - G45 Light Gray:
3 parts Humbrol No. 65 and 1 part Humbrol No. 90

Horizontal surfaces - B15 Dark Blue Gray:
Humbrol No. 96 (optional Humbrol No. 109)

Wood decks - Natural wood (an assumption on my part)

I hope this helps

I have a painting question on the Great War US Navy ships. It looks like you are painting the 01 level / boat deck the same light gray as the hull and superstructure. Is that correct? and if so where did you find a reference for it? Thanks.

Hi Battlewagon

Thanks for the info on the Vanguard. This was a postwar ship and the pictures don't show any darker areas of the hull as the late war British ships were painted.

As far as U.S. WWI ships go, I don't really have a lot of good references for these. I do have a lot of decent references for U.S. and U.K. ships as well as some of the other navies.

Consolidated Micronaut Wish List

Hi Don

Here are my additions to your list. Almost all of these are more votes for ships that are already mentioned.

1. WWII UK Prince of Wales.
2. WWII German Pocket Battleship Lutzow
3. WWII German Battlecruiser Gneisenau
4. Aircraft Carrier Decals. I have a number of these but need some more for the ships that don't have them yet. I would like to see these done as real decals and not the computer generated ones that GHQ has done lately but I may be asking a lot here.
5. WWII Japanese Aircraft Carrier Hosho.
6. WWII Japanese Battleship Fuso 1944 version. Maybe also add a 1944 Yamishiro as well for Surigao Straight.
7. WWI UK BB Neptune.
8. WWI UK Duke of Edinburgh.
9. WWI German Light Cruiser Konigsburg.
10. WWI German Light Cruiser Karlsruhe.
11. WWII U.S. Early Carrier Aircraft - We need the Devastator especially but some Vindicators and Buffalos would be nice as well.

Those are my votes for now. I may add some votes for some other ships on my next posting.
