Would anybody care to elaborate on to current USMC squad, platoon, and company size.
I'm currently into doing some Afghan and Mideast using Marines.
TIA

Hey All,
I am using the info in Clancy's book, "MARINE" for the MEU-(SOC) in the game this month. I think it is pretty close. I served in the Army, but one of the Marines that lives close to me said Clancy was good on his stats and TO&E.
I hope this helps. Of course, someone is always trying to fix things that arn't broken, so maybe it has changed.

HKUrban,
Check out this thread lots of great USMC stuff here. A discussion of LVTP-7/AAV7 begins around page 3 or 4. Hope it helps.

Thanks, I'll give it a looksee. 17 pages worth of information, something in here's gotta be usefull
Edit: found exactly what I needed. Thanks. Seems I was right in my guestimate of AAVs per platoon, only problem is I was not correct for the number of platoons per Company and number of squads per platoon. An easy fix though as I still have 2 or 3 extra AAVs.

Its a sniper rifle, not a "sniper"! You don't call an assault rifle an "assault"!

Tom Clancy's book "Marine" about the MEU describes a unit from the late 90's, early 2000's which is basically an infantry battalion with a tank platoon, an LAV platoon, an AAV company and a bunch of unarmoured Humvees (about 30-40) that make up several CAAT's.
The air package was 6 Harriers, 4 Cobra's, 3 UH-1N's, 4 CH-53E's and 12 CH-46's.
I'm wondering how things have changed in recent years. I assume an MEU still rolls with an AAV company (13 vehicles), two LAV platoons or one LAV platoon and a tank platoon. But what about the CAATs. Do they still exist in their old form? What vehicles are they equipped with nowadays? Uparmoured Humvees? MRAP's? Dumvees?
What about the airpackage? I think the Sea Knights are being phased out, but how many Ospreys are taking their place?
I'm thinking about starting up my MEU again and getting some Chinese to fight them, so I am looking at a high-end conventional threat, rather than the irregulars the USMC has been fighting for the last 10 years.

When Nathanial Fick (Author of One Bullet Away: The Making of a Marine Officer) was a weapons platoon commander in the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines (The First of The First), his infantry Battalion was broken up into 3 main companies. Each company had a different insertion method. I don't remember the specifics of which was which, but I believe Alpha Co was AAVs, Bravo was Boats (RHIBs) and Charlie was Choppers (Sea Stallions).
