Was the Mig 29A ever used in a ground support role (like the F15E) or was it strictly an air superiority fighter? I am trying to decide how many of these beautiful fighters to buy in February.
Thanks!

The MiG-29A was optimized for air-to-air combat and had limited air-to-ground capability. According to generic sources, the fire control radar did not have a air-to-ground mode and there was no air-to-ground laser designator, so that any ground attacks would be by optical means. The inner two pylons on each wing were capable of carrying unguided rockets and bombs. The limited number of combat reports I have seen indicate that MiG-29As were used as air defense or to escort other types of aircraft with greater ground attack capability.
Later versions of the MiG-29 had greater air-to-ground capability, up to ability to carry nuclear strike weapons. If you are not too picky, you can claim that your models are one of the later versions. A purist would point out differences in the fuselage shape and details of the aerodynamic surfaces.

Tourist,
Dwight hosted gaming while I facilitate the modern micro armor game. You shoulda come down to Green Cove Springs at , played modern micro armor with the US fielding M1A2 and M2A2 vs. Germans Leopard 2A6 and Marder 1A3. The Germans beat up the Americans, two platoons of M1A2 were caught in the open and fired in the flank by Leopard 2A6 with the 120mm gun. Few Milan shots helped and destroyed some Bradleys.
We then played Johnny Reb into the evening.
You are welcome to join us.
