I want to be able to show transport of troops using the gaz and zis trucks for Russia. Seems GHQ does not make seated Russian infantry but does make US seated infantry. Would these work in substitution? Any thoughts?

Seated Russian Infantry
There are actually two routes you can go here. You can use the seated American Infantry and at this scale it is hard to really tell. Another route you can use is to use the actual seated Russian artillery crews which come with the 45mm AT gun. This set comes with the guns, two Komsomolets tractors, 2 limbers, and the seated infantry. These are mounted in a strip of three together. You could special order the seated Russians from GHQ but I don't know what the cost per group of three would be. The seated Russians come holding rifles while the U.S. seated infantry has no weapons. I bought some extra Russian seated infantry a few years back for just that purpose.
Not really addressed by your question is what to use for AT crews and the 76mm regimental guns. In this case, I use the U.S. AT crews as being the closest. You can also use the Russian ones but they are in winter uniforms with overcoats and fur hats - no helmets. The U.S. crews look fine.
I would like GHQ to do some genuine French AT and artillery crews one of these days since they have 2 French AT guns and 2 French artillery pieces but no crews yet. I hope they will rectify this soon.

You might want to check out R38, the 45mm AT gun pack:

With , two 45mm Anti-tank guns, two 76mm infantry guns, two limbers, two prime movers, and troops.
Per pack: 2/2/2/2
As you can see it comes with seated Red Army soldiers. They are seated in blocks of 3. From my recollection, this was also the way soldiers were seated in the GAZ series trucks -- the odd case in the Red Army being that they had rows of seats facing forward rather than sitting facing inward towards each other on benches along the sides.
You should be able to buy the sprues seperately. I have an un-openned blister of this around somewhere. I'll go dig it up and post back here with details of whether the infantry figures are on a seperate sprue, or on a sprue with some other parts.
But ...
Quite honestly I would not be able to tell the difference, and would think that you could easily substitute US Armored Infantry (seated figs) for use on Soviet kit. I do. I use both the US and the Soviet seated soldiers (I have several packs) as generic seated figs, choosing between depending on whether I want three (Soviet) or four (US) figures.
But most often I want just 2, so they get snipped apart a lot....
As I understand it (no word from GHQ officially), the Soviet Artillery Crew figures are the same as the US. Look the same to me. I have bought both -- dead useful figs for lots of kit-bashing projects and special-purpose stands (like medics). But more evidence that you can't really tell US from Sovs based just on the helmets at this scale. Same can be said of Italians. Really have to see their kit, and with the seated figs or artillery crewmen you don't really see the kit.
If you paint 'em up as you paint your Sov's, I doubt anyone will be able to see the difference.
Added on edit: Ach, the binpicker beat me to it!

MK1 and pmskaar,
I have two of the 45 mm Russian blisters sitting here (good for early war art and at!) I never thought of using the dudes. They come 5 sets per sprue. I was never going to use them in the defined role so they may work. Of course I may need to get a third pack to show enough troops on the move. Any idea on how to mount them so they are removable during play to show deployment? That way my opponent can tell what in the heck just happened when a company dismounts?

Yeah, sometimes when I go looking into my "To be painted" box I too am surprised by what I find. Almost like diving for sunken treasure...gunbunny wrote: I have two of the 45 mm Russian blisters sitting here (good for early war art and at!) I never thought of using the dudes.
Keep in mind that you can order the sprues directly, without getting the rest of the pack, if you like. Instructions are in the FAQ on this website. They come 5 sets per sprue. That said, if you play Soviets you can almost never have too many 45mm AT guns around. And the caisson that comes with this kit makes a bang-up horse-drawn gun limber. Just add a longer tow-bar, put a couple of seated figs on it, add two or four horses (with one or two riders) from the cavalry pack, and you're in business!
Never considered this before, but hmmmmm ... how about putting 3 rows of 3 seated guys on a small stand that fits in the back of a GAZ truck? Put 'em in, and the truck is loaded. Take 'em out, and it is unloaded?Any idea on how to mount them so they are removable during play to show deployment? Not sure how the sizing works. Never tried it. Had considered using the seated figs to make tank-riders, but they aren't really well posed for that, and a brand-X guy makes an acceptable set (which I now have). But using them to ride in GAZ and ZIS trucks? Hmmmmmm....

Mk1,
I have to ask since I have no idea where to look but which Brand-x makes tank riders? That is something I have wanted to show but thought improbable considering my kit bashing skills. I try to keep strictly GHQ on the board for scale (and way better detail) but may have to branch out to show what I need.
