Ok since i havent been on here in a while, been building 1/72 scale armor. I'm getting back to my ships and 1/2400 scale navy now. I see that most on here are using the Vallejo Water effects for their bases. Question i have is. Does the paint which i have bought a jar of (consitency of mayo). Once it drys does it hold the ship good enough or does the ship still need to be glued or attached to the base in another form or matter?

I will be posting some new pictures in the upcoming weeks. Mainly WW 2 era, but some WW 1 also which is my favorite naval period. Such a large range of ships and countries to choose from adn work with.

Just finished up an Arleigh Burke Class destroyer, USS Barry. I airbrushed the whole ship light gray and used custom decals to do the deck markings, the bridge windows, and a few other markings. The rest is hand painted. Just ordered a Wasp Class LHD that I'll try the same thing on.

Hi av8rmongo, You've done a nice paint job! I've collected the same set of PLAN force you've got from Viking Forge. My PLAN fleet includes: 2x Luyang-II, 2x Luyang-I, 2x Jaingkai-I, 2x Sovremenny, 6x Jianghu-I, 3x Kilo as well as an Admiral Kuznetsov to act as Varyag (the Russian carrier that PLAN is restoring for use). I'm longing for seeing someone producing Jaingkai-II in this scale since there are already at least 8 of them in service.

JB, the decals are water slide decals printed on decal paper from Micro Mark, although there are other sources of the paper. Here is a .PDF file of the decals in case anyone else wants to print their own. I set it up with several shades of gray because of printer variation, and to help with matching paint.

Just make sure you turn off any print scaling when printing.

Curn, Absolutely fabulous job on the Arleigh Burke class.

U made the extra parts in a more detailed way compared to me.
Top Horizontal and the longer bottom horizontal line were well cut out.

Really Great job on it!

I couldn't agree more. I would also like to see some of the other PLAN frigates that have been sold to other Pacific Rim navies. I think the best bet at this stage is to vote early and vote often with the folks at VF and tell them what you want, they're expanding their lines apparently. CinC has also put out that they are coming out with new units in 1/2400 but there is no specificity on what units or even what genre they're going to produce. I maintain hope (I know hope is not a strategy) that by posting pictures of these modern units from other companies I can convince GHQ of my view (or maybe shame them into it) that there is still a market for quality products especially if you expand beyond the limits of cold war super powers.

Like you, I also have GHQ KILOs and Sovremenny for my PLAN forces including 2 Sov. which will be converted to the Project 956EM version. I didn't include them for the reason stated above. As for Varyag, there's lots of doubt about what the PLAN are really doing with her so I haven't committed the resources yet to make a PLAN version - but I have one in the bin just in case.

Hey, this is a very novel and cool approach. I may actually give it a go. Are you using clear or white decal paper? I've been dissatisfied in the past by the white decal paper for decals at this scale because the white carrier film has an appreciable thickness unlike the clear.

Nice PLAN forces from VF av8rmongo. Pretty much got the same selection of Ships from VF as you. WIll be doing them up later.

As for now. I have done and completed my Ticonderoga VLS Cruisers.. And More to come!
Preparing my own Customized Carrier Battle Group.

Pretty much all are hand painted so without the accuracy of decals and airbrush. It wouldn't look as great I guess. :p

But I really do love the whole Micronauts Modern Naval Warship. I would be sure to buy Type 45s and Type 23s should GHQ choose to make them

That's one good looking fleet you have, with an excellent paint job!. I have nothing but respect for people who do hand painting. It takes a steady hand and alot of patience. Can't wait to see more.

The decal paper I used was clear. I have had similar issues with white decal paper. Also, no matter how close you cut out the decal, there will be a thin white line just from the thickness of the white film. Then you have to hand paint over that line. I try to avoid white paper If I can. With a 1/2400 Burke not having white is only noticeable with micro photography.

Thats right Paul. White areas of the decal will not be printed, so the ship paint will show through the white areas of the decal when using clear decal film. Look at the "52" hull numbers on the photos I posted. Only the shadows of the numbers are printed, not the actual number. Still its enough to trick the eye.

Depending on the complexity, it can be used to pull off a great deal of detail on ships this small. I got the idea for this because of some Star Trek decals from Absolute Models for 1/2500 kits. You just paint the ship white, and the decals do everything else, and do a better job than I ever could on a larger model. I figured I could do the same thing for Carrier decks.

So I made this up and have been sitting on it for a year and a half until I figured out a good way to make convincing water. Then I discovered a plastic store called Tap Plastics and had then cut me a bunch of bases from acrylic privacy glass. Painted bottom of them weathered deck blue, and used white kitchen/bath silicone for the wake. Now I'm jumping back into building Micronauts.
