Gaming and Painting nights at Walt's Hobby, Syracuse NY

Post by Ravenseye »

Hey folks!

I hope y'all don't mind me poking my head in here and letting you know about a new modeling/game night in Syracuse NY. From now into the foreseeable future, we at Walts will be hosting a gaming and painting night on Monday Nights! From historical stuff to sci-fi and fantasy, we'd love to have you!

My name is Mike, and I work at Walt's Hobby as a salesman of our fine hobby products, and I am a gamer. I tossed the idea around with my boss, and he has let me know what it would be alright to get this off the ground!

What I am looking for is a night where we can open our store to the gamers of syracuse to play and paint at! I have plenty of room to accomodate a good amount of people! I don't care what games you want to play, or paint for, bring whatever you want to bring!

If you've never been to our shop, it's dead easy to get to!
From anywhere in Central New York, get on 690 and head towards exit 5, take exit 5, take three right hand turns and BAMMO! You're there!

If you require more detailed instructions, this is our address: 2 Dwight Park Drive, Syracuse NY 13209.

I will be there on Monday nights, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at gamingatwalts@gmail.com

Thanks guys! I am looking forward to hearing from everyone who would be interested stopping by!

Update Time!

Post by Ravenseye »

Hey guys!

Just wanted to give a little update as to how painting night has shaped up at Walt's.
I hope you don't mind!

We've held it for three weeks on Monday evenings and I have to say that the crew that is showing up is growing every week! It started with one, grew to three and I expect a bump again this coming week as the word gets out!

One fella is painting early war polish, another fella is painting 15mm germans along with re-working a collection of GHQ german wwII stuff.

I hope, if we can keep expanding this idea, to begin to carry GHQ and other gaming products and offer space for gamers to come play!

If you've never been to Walt's, you really aught to! We have extensive room to host games and would be more than happy to!

Right now, we have two 4x4 tables painted green in the back, if we get more folks, I'll be sure to make more tables available as well!

C'mon down and check it out! it's beginning to get some steam now and I'd love to see more folks in!

-Mike
P.S. I'm the short guy with glasses, pretty easy to recognize :)

Hey Ravenseye,

It would be really great if you guys stocked GHQ. I am from Watertown and the availability of really any type of modeling supplies is pretty sparse. I don't believe anybody carries GHQ in the area. I would gladly drive the hour or so to your store to check out what you guys have.

But don't expect to see me anytime soon as I'm currently in the sandbox. This fall, well that's a different story :D !

I understand man...believe me I do.

If I could show my bosses that there would be a steady stream of people willing to come into our store to trade money for these lil guys I'm sure he'd be on the phone asap.

If you like, direct your browser over towards our website, http://www.walts-hobby.com and drop us an e-mail that I can show my boss.

Do you have friends that collect/game with GHQ models? As hearing from one fella is nice, but, hearing from 8 to 10 that would become steady customers would be better! :)

Thanks for the note and I am sorry that it took me this long to find it sir! Thank you for the incredible work you guys do everyday! I look forward to meeting you in the fall sir!

I have a couple of announcements.

1. Today I’m launching a new web page/blog that will cover the all activities of our gaming group that meets at Walt’s. We will now be known as the Salt City Wargamers. I will be making weekly updates to this page. The address is:
http://saltcitywargamers.wordpress.com/

2. In my push for more gaming I will be running a game of Blitzkrieg Commander next Monday (09/27/10). The game will be an all armor meeting engagement. More details can be found on the new site.

Thanks
Bryan

No ACW, but I am beginning to acquire some ww2 Germans and Russians. Also, unfortunately, I do not go to Syracuse as often as I would like. Even though it is the summer I am not old enough to drive. However I will be in Syracuse hopefully this Friday to do some school shopping, so I might try to stop in at Walt's Hobby to see what they have, and maybe buy some supplies. 8)

Why we are posting about gaming events, groups and stores.

I would like to invite anyone in the northern Indiana southern Michigan chicagoland area, to come game with FIre For Effect in South Bend Indiana at the Griffon Bookstore / hobby store.

We game every saturday from 11am till 6pm all periods Anicents, napoleanics, WW I, WW II, Battletech, naval, micro armor RPG, Board games etc.. etc.. you think of it or wish to game it we will host or do it.

We Also have many events from time to time away from the griffon book store, Such as we just started A WW I naval campaign last week that runs once a month at one of the members house. We are always open for more members and games. We average 10 to 15 per week at most games some times more some times less.

We have a google group if anyone is interested feel free to PM me and i can get you the information.

fullmetaljacket,
You might consider starting a new thread with your store's information. You'd likely catch the attention of more local folks if you had your area in the subject line.

Just a suggestion. :)

Do the Salt City Wargamers ever do 6mm?
I have been on the web page and saw some 15mm AARs.
I will probably be at Walt's for the first time soon to buy some styrene.
Good luck on your Bull Run scenario!! :D

Rommel58:

We have played some Iran-Iraq war using Cold War Commander. I have a good senario designed for those armies but to be honest I'm not sure of the condition of my Iranian army since the house fire. I also have early WW2 German, Polish and Belgium armies that I'd like to get back on the table.

I saw in another thread that you were asking questions about the new 1 to 1 Micro squad rules. Did you purchase them?
