Regarding mismatched superstructure parts; I've generally just contacted GHQ for replacement parts.

Yeah, Mikee. I've had cause to do that as well and the people at GHQ have been wonderful about it. But the replacements came with the next order. And my 'next order' can be a couple of months away with another month added for delivery, so it's in my interest to effect any possible on-the-spot repairs.

(Weird, I somehow messed up the 'quote' function, which I hold up as proof of my ability to break pretty much anything).
On balance, Jellicoe was probably right.

On the few occasions that I have had problems with a GHQ product, I have received replacement parts in about one week after notifying them of the problem. I've never had to wait for the next order.

I quit naval gaming because I could not find opponents that were well researched or understood how to use their fleets.[/quote]

That's a good point you raise about my plans and the reasons I was trying (unsuccessfully) to get people to read the proper books ahead of time - so what if I can round up players? It's not going to make for a good game, is it?

Yes, Don - that delay is partly my own doing. I feel bad about getting someone to send a mere stack (or something similar) all that way! It's probably silly, I know, but it just feels odd. Hence fixing at home wherever possible.
On balance, Jellicoe was probably right.

What colour do you paint your American ship hulls? Decks? Helo pads? Carrier decks?

What colour do you paint your British ship hulls? Decks? Helo pads? Carrier decks?

Ray,

For the USN hulls I use Testors MM Aggressor Gray lightened with a little white (maybe 10-12 eyedropper drops per 1/2 oz. bottle. For decks I use a TLAR (that looks about right) mix of charcoal grey. Helo pads and carrier decks are painted with the same non-skid stuff that regular decks are so they would be the same. I don't do that though. I just paint the helo pads and flight decks black. 100% accurate? Nope, but it makes the tiny planes stand out better so it looks cooler on the table (My opinion only obviously). Decks / Flight decks can take on a wide range of shades of gray depending on how recently the non-skid was applied and what theater the ship is operating in. Two ships of the same class could easily have very different appearances based on this weathering variation so find a color or system that works for you.

For the Soviets I use Floquil Ploy-S Light Topside Gray which is available through the Testors website I believe. Soviet decks I use a TLAR mix with Tamiya's leather brown as the starting point. The helo pads are again just black.

For the UK I've never found a color I'm really happy with but generally use Testors MM Camouflage gray. The decks are done slightly lighter than USN colors and the helo / flight decks are black.

Sorry I can't give you exact references but those are the colors I use.

Here's a USCG Cutter I did

Ray,

The mat is actually a piece of 1" foam insulation board from Home Depot that I painted.

1/2400 Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate from GHQ

I love how this one painted up so well!!! GHQ models have so much detail to work with. I have been painting a lot of modern ships lately, so I need to start posting pics:

Well it looks quite nice. I guess the texture helps. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like a very transportable surface so I guess I will stick with the felt.

Definitely not transportable, in fact I only made it to be able to photograph the ships with a background better than the blue cloth i use for gaming. I did one side in North Atlantic dark, cold colors and the other in South China Sea / Caribbean lighter colors. I tried to make a little white cap effect on the N. Atlantic side but it didn't work all that well.

I've shown this before but here's the South China Sea side. I didn't use the modge podge sealer on this side so all the foam dimples are clearly visible.

The palm trees are pewter from an architectural supply company called microform models. There are several different sizes some that might work for micro armor but I don't know what the prices are anymore.

So the exact Doomsday Timing is about 4 hours from now.

I figured that it be quite apt to post some Modern Micronauts of the Kirov-class Battlecruiser and the Sovremenny class Destroyer. :p

Hope you guys like it!
