Looking forward to the rest of the project.
Thanks cama!

I did this due to the game I am looking to fire up and play. It is skirmish based with the ratio of each stand to soldier being 1:1. So might as well base only 1 soldier on a stand, right? The game looks to have good rules for moving and combat where you do not have to track an individual soldier persay. So you can increase the number of individual troops each side has as assets and still have a fast paced moving game instead of being bogged down with tracking individual pieces of information.

We shall see how this works out.

I also play Command Decision III where each stand represents 1 platoon (4-6 vehicles or infantry) and it is easier to get away with this scale. Vietnam is challenging to play at the Battalion level given the nature of the Conflict.

Oh cool, any pics?

Setup a board to take a few pics. I quickly realized that I need to get back to hex production. With the pool table in place and the ping pong table on top, I have some square footage to fill up.

Maiden voyages for some of these models. More to come… But I am looking forward to setting up a quick mission to run through the FoF rules and start learning them. I am already looking at creating scenarios and possibly a campaign for someone to follow a particular platoon through the war. Curious to see how this goes… I used to be a part of a team that created a Vietnam MOD for a PC game called Armed Assault. There was a lot of research completed for the MOD that I am trying to see how I can bring to the tabletop warfare arena.

Hope you guys like. Cheers!

I'm especially liking your Chinook. Perfect looking.
Thanks cama! Everything is still a WIP. Need to tidy up some things.

Everyone place their final order with GHQ before tomorrow? Hehe (prices go up)

I ordered some more huts for the various villages along with some straw grass to bring the roofs to life a little more. I have about 15-16 helos built and ready for primer so this should be interesting.

Hopefully, I was going to use this extended weekend to get going on more terrain hexes. The lad has expressed interest in wanting to learn so I am hoping to continue his training and complete the process of bringing him over to the dark side.

Has anyone tried using BLACK bump chenille for trees? GHQ has a great shade of green for making trees that is difficult to replicate in your local stores. You almost have to find a green that is close and then tint it with a better shade of green paint. Then I flock them and mate them to the terrain hex.

I was hoping to see if I can get away with a black chenille and go straight to flocking them with a shade of green to bring them to life. And if any black comes through, then Im hoping it gives the appearance of “shadowsâ€￾… we shall see… But if it works out, then it allows me to skip a step and continue to buy in bulk from Amazon…

Great looking Helicopters

But I need to ask, whats with the light blue flags on the stands? Are they purely decoration to hide the stand or a wind / direction marker?
Cheers

Thank you!

The little blue flags are painters tape for protecting the aircraft stands from being painted. I use those same stands to hold the helicopter in place while airbrushing. Once I am done, they will be removed and back to the normal stand. I still have quite a few helocopters to finish up so I am leaving the tape on for now. Once complete, then the tape will be removed.

nice lookig terrain and good rendering of water but I have a comment on layout,

Paddy fields are not swimming pools,They are part of a water system. The level of the water in them must be kept right. Too low and the rice will dry, too high and the rice wil rot.

Sp you need a continuous water source to compensate the evaporation and some ** CENSORED ** to drain the excess water to avoid flooding by rain. The waater must be fully drained at the nd of the growth when the rice is mature some time before harvest.

cama wrote:Those look great. Your wet effect is really nicely done. I have wondered how I would approach hexes that would cover a larger area, and seeing yours I can move ahead - so thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers!
Thanks cama. You are welcome! Fire off any questions! Perhaps someone can help if you run into an issue/problem.

Hi TAMMY! Thank you and you have some valid points!

But please keep in mind, I am only in the building phase of my layout(s). After developing/creating pieces, I am throwing them together to see what I am missing and what I could use more of in the future. Sort of like building a puzzle… you make one hex, piece by piece and at some point you want to stretchout/layout to see what you have and how it comes together (big picture). This is what these pictures are doing.

My prelim layout was to see how much of the 52sq ft (4.83 sq meter) table I can fill and how much I have left to make. So great point! Please realize I just threw these together for me and my hope to inspire others to start/continue building their environments for a hobby that we all enjoy.
